POSITION DESCRIPTION Telecom Engineer
Program: FBI Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG), Tactical Section Support Unit, Operations Support Group Location: Quantico, Virginia Clearance: TS required at time of hire Reports To: IPS Program Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
Information Protection Solutions (IPS) is seeking a Telecom Engineer to support secure mobile, telecommunications, and identity-credentialing operations for an FBI mission environment. The Telecom Engineer is responsible for the full lifecycle administration of mobile devices, MiFi services, Cradlepoint connectivity, eSIM and SIM provisioning, and Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms. The role also provides Tier 2 support for the IDSecure credentialing platform and contributes to the integration of mobile, VOIP, and deployable communications capabilities. The Telecom Engineer collaborates with senior engineers and the customer to ensure that all mobile and identity solutions meet FBI security protocols, including encryption, multi-factor authentication, and secure data handling.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provision, activate, configure, and decommission mobile phones, SIM cards, eSIMs, Cradlepoint devices, and supporting accessories.
Coordinate and administer MiFi services across the supported user base.
Administer Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms, including Microsoft Intune and AirWatch.
Troubleshoot user mobile device issues, including voice and data connectivity, secure authentication errors, and application functionality.
Coordinate with telecommunications service providers to resolve service-related issues and escalations.
Maintain mobile asset inventory, manage device replacements, and oversee firmware and software updates.
Provide Tier 2 support for IDSecure software, including installation, troubleshooting, credential resets, and system updates.
Assist in developing and documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for mobile and IDSecure operations.
Collaborate with senior engineers on architecture changes, system integration, and modernization initiatives.
Ensure mobile solutions remain compliant with FBI security protocols, including encryption standards, multi-factor authentication, and secure data handling.
Support integration of mobile and IDSecure platforms with VOIP services and deployable communications kits.
Support adoption of future mobile and telecommunications technologies, including satellite-based communications.
Maintain accurate inventory of all mobile devices assigned to the Mobile Point of Contact.
Ensure all property transfer documents are issued, signed, and delivered to the Property Team in accordance with established procedures.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Required
Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting enterprise mobile environments.
Demonstrated experience with telecommunications service providers, mobile hardware and software platforms, and MDM solutions.
Hands-on experience with IDSecure or comparable secure identity and authentication software.
Working knowledge of endpoint management, SIM provisioning, and cellular network technologies.
Strong technical documentation and end-user training skills.
Active and transferable TS/SCI security clearance required at time of hire.
Preferred
CompTIA Mobility+ certification or equivalent industry-recognized mobile or telecommunications certification.
Familiarity with RF theory and deployable communications environments.
Experience supporting federal law enforcement or Intelligence Community mission environments.
