Duties
Help
  • Shift Leader who is an assistant to the Guard Shift Supervisor. Makesdaily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas.
  • Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures.
  • Checks on work in progress to ensure supervisor's instructions on work sequence procedures are met.
  • Makes note of work not meeting established requirements and refers problem matters to the supervisor.
  • Independently performs, with little or no supervision, installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles.
  • Authenticates identification through use of electronic Personnel Access Control Systems (ePACS), identification cards, badges, biometric automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.
  • Validates entry requests through the use of ePACS and grants access to persons and vehicles with appropriate authorizations.
  • Serves as the initial point of contact for the installation's visitors which may include foreign nationals, government agents, elective officials, media and Very Important Persons.
  • Questions suspicious persons and warns or detains violators of laws, regulations, policies, rules or posted warnings.
  • Incumbent is responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
  • Operates and performs research queries on the National Crime Information Center(NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
  • Processes a variety of NCIC queries and provides timely response as appropriate or required.
  • Performs electronic Physical Access Control Systems (ePACS) registrar operations in order to enroll personnel into the system for the vetting and printing of visitor passes/badges.
  • Incumbent serves as a member of the installation's overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents.
  • First responders are subject to emergency recall and provide immediate response to active shooter and other situations such as terrorist threat, national emergencies and natural disasters.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Must comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program which includes a high standard of conduct, assessed for emotional stability, judgment, adjusting to changes, work effectively under pressure and emergencies.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required and is subject to recall.
  • This position requires the incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass an annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • This positions requires the incumbent must successfully complete security guard training. This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test(PAT). Failure to meet the PAT requirements as outline is Army Regulation 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the incumbent must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • This position requires employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • May require to wear chemical protection masks and other protective equipment, and to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton. Must not have a medical condition that precludes the wearing of chemical protective masks and over garments.
  • Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability. The duties require for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Mission Essential Position. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations
  • In accordance the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act if convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position; and is subject to removal from the position if found convicted after being employed.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
