Job Description

Duties

  • You will serve as the Department Assistant Security Manager (DASM) and the primary point of contact for all security matters within the department, acting under the direction of the Security Director and Activity Security Manager (ASM).
  • You will be responsible for translating overarching security policy into practical guidance for a variety of work situations.
  • You will coordinate with Security Program Managers and Department Security Coordinators to address specific operational environments.
  • You will serve as the initial contact for non-routine security issues, such as identifying new requirements, resolving policy conflicts, mitigating risks, and managing security-related projects to support departmental objectives.
  • You will provide interpretation of security policy to management and employees, participate in the development of local policies, and collaborate with security coordinators to research and implement improved security methods and procedures.
  • You will oversee daily security functions, including supervising security desks and working closely with division Security Coordinators to ensure compliance through regular spot checks and verification of corrective actions.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is part of the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Professional Educational Development (SPeD) certification program.
  • The selectee is required to obtain Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within two years of placement in the position and maintain the certification as long as they remain in the position.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-04 (GS-11/12 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: interpreting and applying security policies and procedures to manage a comprehensive security program; overseeing daily security operations, including compliance checks, incident response, and risk mitigation; advising leadership on security matters and policy implementation; and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to support and enhance organizational security objectives.

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The NT-05 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-13 and GS-14.
