Circulation Librarian

McLaughlin Research Corporation seeks an enthusiastic Librarian to join a collaborative team working at the Science & Technology Library at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport. The librarian will be expected to provide:
• Daily on-site circulation support for books, documents, and Interlibrary Loan (ILL) materials
• Daily on-site library coverage, including opening & closing as needed
• Daily on-site library space maintenance & organization
• Additional daily library services to library users, such as ready reference, research consultations, and kiosk support.
This librarian will also be expected to work closely with our Book Collection Lead Librarian & Classified Library Lead Librarian with any collection project support, potentially taking on additional document collection tasking. In addition, the librarian will have various opportunities to work on digital projects such as LibGuide reviews and digital repository support, such as cataloging and scanning. The librarian may also work on reference or outreach projects based on need. All unique Navy Library training will be provided.

The library team is cross-functional and hybrid, meaning we provide both on-site and digital library services across the country. New hires are expected to be full-time on-site in Newport M-F during their six-month training and probation period, after which they may be eligible for 1 deep work day for the next six-month period. After a full year they can discuss potential additional hybrid days with their supervisor. The team is specifically looking for someone who is interested and invested in providing daily on-site library services, maintaining our small special library space, and collaborating with our charismatic and caring library team.

Job Requirements

• Must be able to successfully obtain an Active Security Clearance - Secret Level.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of library & information science.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Detail-oriented, innovative, and proactive with experience working both collaboratively and independently.
• Proficiency in the use of technology for the delivery of library services and an awareness of current trends.
