Job Description

Duties
Help
  • Provide daily guidance and support to military, contract and federal civilian employees related to veterinary care, ensuring the assigned work is completed to standard, on time and efficient.
  • Train new and experienced animal users on procedures, techniques, and processes.
  • Provide veterinarian prescribed clinical care, anesthesia and surgical support to non-human primates, swine, ferrets, rabbits, and rodents.
  • Consult with department leadership and researchers to coordinate research support.
  • Perform supply and equipment inventory and ordering, which could include projecting future needs, budget considerations and constraints, and utilizing the government purchase card and current ordering systems.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is designated Tier 3, Non-Critical Sensitive, Moderate Risk and requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance Level as a condition of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a One-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification within 12 months of employment and maintain certification.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Due to the incumbent being a part of the controlled substance chain of custody, position requires certification in the Controlled Substance Personnel Reliability Program (CS-PRP), IAW AR 190-13.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Incumbent will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment such as respirators, earplugs, safety shoes, etc.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
Qualifications

USAMRICD is participating in an alternative personnel system known as the Personnel Demonstration Project (PDP). The DE-03 payband is equivalent to the GS-11 step 1 to GS-12 step 10 level. In keeping with the Demonstration pay fixing policies, employees earning a salary that falls within this payband equivalent, may not receive an immediate pay increase (promotion) if appointed to this position. Future pay increases within the payband will be accomplished through the pay for performance management system.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Experience in medical support of old world primates and other laboratory animal species; AND (2) Experience with veterinary anesthesia and surgical support procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
