Duties

As an IT SPECIALIST (CUSTSPT), GS-2210-09/11, you will administer classified and unclassified local area network (LAN) clients, monitors ongoing operation of network systems to ensure hardware and software functions, and meets operational standards. Identifies and resolves complex network related problems occurring within the assigned area of responsibility. Respond to customer requests for assistance, ensuring trouble reports are handled expeditiously. Troubleshoot hardware, software, and LAN/Client operating system problems. Evaluate workstations for appropriate type of hardware and software to ensure system interoperability. Manage the assigned IT/communications environment with privileged access at the network level for the Wing, Geographically Separated Units (GSU), and Tenants. Plan, coordinate, install, and continuously analyze system design, hardware and software. Develops, recommends, and installs solutions and upgrades to ensure availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of all components of the assigned system. Provide Information Assurance systems support for all disciplines, ensuring the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of network services. Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5-day workweek, then a 4-day workweek (eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80-hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements.

  • KANSAS AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance within one year of appointment.
  • This is an Information Assurance Workforce position. must meet position requirements for certification at Level II in IA Tech (IAT-11). Certification requirements may be found in DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program.
  • THE INCUMBENT SHALL COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM AND WILL BE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN CERTIFICATION WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF APPOINTMENT.
  • Must be certified IAW DOD 8570.01-M, Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002, Clinger Cohen Act of 1996 and current AF directives. Minimum requirements are specified in the most recent 8570 PD template on the A3CC Page of the GKO Portal
Qualifications

Military Grades: E-3 through E-5

Compatible Military Assignments: any, selected must qualify for AFSC 1D7X2R

GENERAL EXPERIENCE :

For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.


  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-09: Must have 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade which includes experience, education, or training receiving, maintaining, and issuing data storage media for computer operations. Experience in scheduling the use of computer time for program processing. Experience collecting and sequentially staging input media with associated program instructions for processing. Experience in at least one programming language. Translating detailed logical steps developed by others into language codes that computers accept where this required understanding of procedures and limitations appropriate to use of a programming language. Experience interviewing subject-matter personnel to get facts regarding work processes and synthesizing the resulting data into charts showing information flow. Experience in analysis of the interrelationship of pertinent components of the system. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment. Experience scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-11: Must have at least 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade which includes experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion. Knowledge of systems development, modification, testing, installation, operations, and support concepts as well as the organization's network and infrastructure architecture and protocols to provide support related to: test, evaluation, installation, configuration and modification of hardware and software for operating systems, network platform, and interface connectivity.

    Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.

    Physical Demands: The work is sedentary. No special demands are required to perform the work.

    Work Environment: The work is performed in a typical office setting. Special safety precautions are not required.

    Education

    Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience:
    GS-9 (or equivalent) master's degree or equivalent graduate degree
    or
    2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree

    GS-11 (or equivalent) Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
    or
    3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

    Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

    You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.
