This position will provide technical representation and management coordination between APL and Raytheon (RTX) Tucson relative to guided weapon development and deployment programs, with focus on the SM-3 program and prototype programs.

As a Guided Weapon Technical Representative, you will...
  • Maintain contact/communication with APL program management and technical leads on RTX SM-3 and prototype programs in which APL is involved.
  • Serve as a conduit between APL/Government and RTX for resolution of critical technical issues (e.g., Software and Firmware, Modeling & Simulation, aerodynamics, GNC, thermal, structures, electrical, RF engineering).
  • Participate in contractor team meetings and higher-level meetings (e.g., program management reviews, test readiness reviews, permit-to-ship meetings, etc.).
  • Witness and, when appropriate, participate in RTX development, test, and risk mitigation activities.
  • Interact on a person-to-person basis with RTX management and technical staff.
  • Coordinate with other APL field representatives and Surface Navy TechRep personnel to understand issues and lessons-learned from other missile variants that may be applicable to the assigned program.
  • Report findings to APL management and staff, and identify opportunities for additional technical analysis, studies, and testing of components and sub-assemblies.
  • Leverage key expertise from APL to make programs at RTX successful.
  • Maintain current knowledge of APL capabilities and missile-related efforts (scope, status, and technology development for Navy weapon programs) through discussions, product reviews, and periodic site visits.
  • Maintain required exchange of data between RTX and APL through the use of e-Room, cPDM, SharePoint, and classified networks and any approved means as needed.
  • Facilitate the exchange of hardware/software and technical assessments as requested.
  • Ensure that contact is maintained with the on-site PEO IWS Navy TechRep Office, provide assistance to that office on specific tasks as requested by the Navy, and coordinate with the appropriate APL program office.
  • Participate in meetings, events, product reviews, focused on prototype programs where APL is involved.
  • Identify needs and opportunities for cross-program technical collaboration on future capabilities to leverage synergies and dependencies among programs.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Possess a B.S. degree in a relevant engineering discipline, physics or equivalent
  • Have 10+ years of experience in missile systems engineering or production
  • Self-starter with demonstrated interpersonal and strong verbal/ written communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to foster staff technical growth and build team depth of bench
  • Ability to cultivate functional relationships across organizational boundaries
  • Strong organizational skills with a record of accomplishment in a multi-discipline team environment
  • Hold a TS/SCI clearance and eligible for Special Access Program clearances. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
  • Have an M.S. or PHD in a relevant engineering discipline, physics or equivalent
  • Experience with SM-3 or Aegis BMD
  • Knowledge across a broad range of missile disciplines including aerodynamics, structures and dynamics, propulsion, IR seekers, guidance navigation and control, integration and test, modeling and simulation, electronics, and manufacturing
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a "trusted agent" within the government/contractor environment
  • Knowledge of the Defense Acquisition Process and experience with the Missile Defense Agency and RTX organizations
  • Have 15+ years of relevant experience in missile systems engineering or production
  • Hold an active SAP


Special Requirement (off-site# days, clearance, etc.):
  • Work site located in the greater Tucson, Arizona area. Periodic travel to the APL Howard County campus and greater DC area. Local travel to other RTX Facilities and Navy Laboratories and field test sites as required.
  • TS/SCI clearance (active), SAP eligible

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
