Job Description

Duties

  • You will coordinating a broad range of historical programs and projects that include the research, writing and publication of a broad range of finished knowledge products including, but not limited to, articles, scholarly monographs, etc..
  • You will help establish long range production plans in coordination with the Branch Head and sets priorities, maintains production and supervises historians in specific areas of responsibility.
  • You will Identify developmental and training needs of employees and provides and/or arranges for the needed development and training.
  • You will work with external customers to coordinate historical support products by the Histories Branch,

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Planning, developing and approving training for new historians, including mentoring staff in the development of annual objectives and preparation of IDP's. The incumbent assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments and the capabilities of employees. The incumbent provides technical oversight, develops performance plans and rates employees. The incumbent interviews candidates for subordinate positions, recommends hiring, promotions and/or reassignments. The incumbent takes disciplinary measures and also identifies developmental and training needs of employees and provides/or arranges for needed development and training. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining effective section communication and morale. The incumbent counsels staff members on the performance of duties when necessary and manages performance through appropriate awards and corrective action. The incumbent hears and resolves employee complaints, referring unsolved conflicts to higher management. The incumbent applies position management principles to section and ensures personnel management practices meet EEO/Affirmative Action requirements. The position focus is accomplishing the command's mission to preserve and promote the Navy's history, supporting CNO and OPNAV staffs, shore commands and the operating forces. The supervisory historian acts in an SME capacity, provides guidance and direction at a higher level, and communicates with colleagues and counterparts in the pursuit of more complex and more demanding assignments. The supervisory historian has to exhibit the potential and ability to supervise an entire section with diverse demands and requirements while working to partner with outside agencies and organizations, manage multiple projects and plan strategically for the future.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess

Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
