The United States Space Force (USSF) at Peterson Space Force Base, CO is searching for a Configuration and Data Management Specialist for MD 8 (NH-0301-03, GS-12/13 equivalent).

Description:
Are you a seasoned authority in Configuration Management and Technical Process Governance? The 8th Sustainment Squadron (8STS) is looking for a high-level expert to serve as the technical backbone of our mission. We are seeking a professional who understands the nuances of the military acquisition framework, technical baseline management, and has the vision to transition our sustainment portfolio toward digital engineering and automated, threat-responsive workflows. If you have the expertise to charter Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) and the passion to uphold rigorous IEEE and EIA standards, we invite you to anchor our technical team. Candidate Profile The Expert: You possess the knowledge to solve complex engineering and technical management problems that leave others stumped. The Educator: You are capable of authoring high-level process documentation and training the entire organization on technical management best practices. The Visionary: You stay ahead of the curve, monitoring commercial practices and DoW methodologies to replace outdated military standards with efficient, modern alternatives.

Ideal Candidate:
Acquisition Trained/Certified: Deep familiarity with the military procurement and sustainment lifecycle. SATCOM Specialist: Specific experience managing Satellite Communications operational and lab configurations and technical baselines. Quality Audit & Compliance: Experience in QA/QC oversight, audit processes, and ensuring compliance with established technical standards. Test Management: Knowledge and experience in overseeing verification, validation, and testing frameworks within a system engineering lifecycle. System Safety Management: Proven experience in guiding Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness (OSS&E) and managing risk protocols. Program Office Veteran: Previous experience navigating the complexities of a DoW Program Office environment.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Expert knowledge of configuration and data management policies as specified in instructions, manuals, military specifications and standards, and organizational directives.
2. Understanding of system and equipment specifications used, including knowledge of audits, engineering drawings, data and contractor engineering control and release processes.
3. Knowledge of contractor estimating and pricing techniques as related to proposal evaluation. Knowledge of and skill in the use of principles of negotiations as required to reconcile diverse opinions that can arise from conflicts in engineering change proposals and contract change proposals evaluation, including contracting, configuration, data, engineering data, and audits.
4. Knowledge of the organization and contractor operations and familiarity with the various management and technical abilities involved sufficient to enable an understanding of technical and procurement terminology and procedures.
5. Expert knowledge in configuration, data, engineering data and deficiency reports to solve problems not readily solvable by line elements. To conceive and develop needed improvements in specific areas of configuration, data, engineering data and deficiency report management to provide appropriate configuration and data guidance to directorate personnel and other functional organizations.
6. Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively.
7. Ability to plan, organize, and chair conferences and meetings.
8. Skill in developing corrective actions for observed discrepancies in deficiencies.
9. Thorough knowledge of the policies and issues pertaining to proprietary rights in data.

  • Must be a U.S Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret / SCI security clearance.
  • Safeguards classified or sensitive budget-related information and/or files.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "Unscheduled Telework".
  • This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
  • Employee may be required to perform travel by military or commercial passenger aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
  • PCS / relocation funding is authorized.
  • Employee must within 30-days of assuming this position and by 31 October annually thereafter, file an OGE-450, "Confidential Financial Disclosure Report.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 20 days per year.
