Our client seeks an Application Tester to support Java, .NET, and MQ messaging applications within a structured SDLC. The role will plan and execute manual and automated testing, validate data via SQL, and document results to improve quality and reliability. The tester will collaborate with cross-functional teams to triage issues, manage defects, and support change management across AFMS applications. The position will impact delivery by ensuring test coverage, regression integrity, and adherence to test standards.
Due to federal security clearance requirements, applicant must be a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident with an active Public Trust clearance. This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Responsibilities:
- Plan and develop functional test plans for all phases of testing.
- Design, execute, and maintain automated and manual test scripts.
- Generate test data to support test execution.
- Perform data validation and execute regression, functional, load, and system testing.
- Verify results and produce test summaries and defect reports.
- Identify defects and requirement discrepancies.
- Create defect change requests and report discrepancies.
- Determine test objectives and standards by reviewing customer requirements.
- Conduct testing of web-based systems.
- Capture and document testing artifacts and record defects.
- Validate results by accessing and querying databases using MS Access or SQL.
- Report test outcomes by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, summarizing, and displaying data.
- Resolve testing problems by adjusting methods and revising objectives and plans with management.
- Analyze and understand business requirements, current functionality, and new requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, analysis walkthroughs, and peer reviews.
- Utilize Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearCase for change and defect management.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in software testing, including creation and implementation of tests.
- Proven experience performing both manual and automated testing on web-based applications.
- Demonstrated use of test strategies, test plans, manual test cases, and automated test scripts.
- Ability to develop automated scripts and organize execution suites, preferably with Rational Test Manager and Rational Functional Tester (preferred).
- Ability to conduct test risk and system impact analysis.
- Proficiency with SQL for backend database testing and data validation.
- Experience with tools such as TestComplete, Insomnia, SoapUI, ReadyAPI, TOAD, or Data Studio (preferred).
- Working knowledge of Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearCase.
- Strong problem solving, decision making, and detail orientation.
- Ability to collaborate, communicate, and triage technical issues across teams.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Flexibility to work weekends and off hours as required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- US Citizenship and ability to pass a DOJ MBI Level 5 background investigation.
