Department Summary:

The Mission Enabled Software Systems Department in the Software Engineering Innovation Center is seeking a Associate Full Stack Developer to support its diverse technical work programs. This individual will have an opportunity to have an impact across a number of sponsor outcomes, influence strategic direction, and identify and shape new opportunities in diverse domains ranging from strengthening national security, developing innovative climate solutions and addressing key healthcare challenges. They will also provide mentorship to junior engineers and provide technical leadership across key programs.

Selected candidate will be submitted for a DoD Secret clearance.

Roles & Responsibilities:

As a Software Developer at MITRE, you will enjoy a collaborative environment where you work closely with others in an organization that encourages and values collaboration, mentoring, and continuous learning. You will have the opportunity to leverage and grow your hands-on software engineering expertise as you contribute to real challenges across a variety of domains. As part of the Software Engineering Innovation Center, you will develop your software architecture and engineering skills while delivering computing capabilities to address the challenges of our sponsors.

While responding to these challenges, you will leverage and grow your hands-on skills with software design and development, engaging in the full software engineering lifecycle using modern technologies.

You will gain experience with one or more of the following:
  • Cloud Engineering
  • DevSecOps
  • Full-Stack Development
  • Embedded Systems and Internet of Things
  • Practical Applications of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
  • Familiarity with user-centered design principles as applied throughout the software development cycle
  • Develops wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to effectively communicate design ideas
  • Mission-based software engineering and deployment


Basic Qualifications:
  • Requires a minimum of 2 years related experience with a related Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or an advanced degree who can immediately contribute at this job step.
  • Per the U.S. Government's eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.
  • Hands-on skills in at least one and ideally multiple modern programming languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, C/C++, C#, Python, Go, or Rust).
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and practices (desirable also includes exposure to Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Infrastructure-as-Code, Automation for Security and Testing, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • High level desire to help our nation solve its most critical challenges.
  • Exposure to software development tools and frameworks, including source control management tools (e.g., Git).
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, D3, and modern JavaScript Frameworks such as Angular, Vue, React, and/or similar libraries.
  • Proficiency in utilizing wireframe design software.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference given to candidates who have completed an advanced degree in a technical discipline (including but not limited to Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, etc.)
  • Preference given to qualified candidates with active clearance.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Cloud Services Providers (AWS, Azure, Google, etc.).
  • Knowledge of software design patterns.
  • Knowledge of database technologies, including relational or NoSQL.
  • Knowledge of Generative Pretrained and Large Language Models and use in the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of user-centric engineering tools and techniques and a passion for developing user-centric systems that contribute to mission success
  • Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Entrepreneurial and innovative spirit and the curiosity to explore and push the boundaries of software development and software solutions
