Duties
The United States Space Force (USSF) at Los Angeles Air Force Base, El Segundo, CA is searching for a Director, SSC/S5 (NH-1101-04, GS-14/15 equivalent).
Description:
As a senior leader at Space Systems Command (SSC), you will direct a multi-disciplinary team of military, civilian, and contractor professionals dedicated to developing and acquiring advanced space technologies. In this "manager of managers" role, you will oversee all aspects of critical space programs, bringing together engineering, financial management, and program execution. Your primary focus will be guiding subordinate leaders, managing complex project risks, and ensuring that vital space systems are delivered efficiently to support the National Defense Strategy. Beyond day-to-day team management, you will serve as a key representative for your directorate, regularly briefing senior military leaders and corporate executives on program statuses and budget requirements. Ultimately, this role requires a strategic problem-solver who can navigate high-stakes technical challenges while driving the Space Force's mission to field resilient space capabilities.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of the policies, practices, regulations, and laws concerning the acquisition management process and initiatives.
2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of the missions, roles, functions, organizational structures, and operation of the DOD, Air Force, and organizations that govern, interface with, and/or influence the systems acquisition process.
4. Skill to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff in critical aspects of development and production, support of systems, subsystems, or equipment and to coordinate various aspects of systems acquisition such as engineering, contracting, financial management, configuration, test, and manufacturing.
5. Ability to supervise, mentor, motivate, appraise, and work with subordinate supervisors and non-supervisory employees.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, with technical accuracy and to use computers and a variety of software programs and databases, gather and analyze a variety of program information, make sound judgments concerning program progress, and effectively communicate recommendations orally and in writing to higher organizational management and contractors.
V. OTHER WORK REQUIREMENTS:
1. Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for the position.
2. Employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include evenings and weekends and may be subject to recall. Incumbent may be required to report to work during base exercises, contingencies, or emergency situations and overtime/comp time/credit hours may be required to accomplish assigned duties.

- Must be a U.S Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret / SCI security clearance.
- Safeguards classified or sensitive budget-related information and/or files.
- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
- Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "Unscheduled Telework".
- This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
- Employee may be required to perform travel by military or commercial passenger aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
- PCS / relocation funding is authorized.
- This is a Critical Acquisition Position (CAP).
- Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 20 days per year.
- Employee must within 30-days of assuming this position and annually thereafter, file an OGE-450, "Confidential Financial Disclosure Report.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
- Position requires a professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred.
- The employee must meet the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position.
- Employee is required to meet Continuing Learning requirements.
