Position Summary
Command Cyber Solutions is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team in direct support of the Hill Air Force Base (Hill AFB) Component Enterprise Data Center (CEDC). In this mission-critical role, the engineer is responsible for sustaining and optimizing a complex, multi-vendor on-premises hardware, virtualization, and application delivery infrastructure spanning both classified and unclassified enclaves, while actively advancing a strategic hybrid cloud transition to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud. The successful candidate will leverage deep expertise in hardware optimization, F5 BIG-IP configuration, Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) automation tools including Ansible, PowerShell, and Terraform to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable hosting services in support of Air Force depot maintenance, logistics, and enterprise resource planning missions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Optimize on-premises hardware configurations across Cisco UCS servers, Cohesity, and Pure Storage platforms, including CPU, memory, and storage tuning, to maximize application performance and sustain the existing Hill CEDC hosting environment.
- Configure and manage F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM), Access Policy Manager (APM), and Application Security Module (ASM) virtual instances for advanced load balancing and intelligent traffic management in support of middleware and application delivery.
- Implement robust data tiering strategies and Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS)-compliant encryption solutions across on-premises and hybrid cloud storage environments, ensuring data security and compliance with Department of War (DoW) information assurance requirements.
- Sustain and enhance VMware infrastructure including vSphere, vCenter, VMware NSX, and VMware Virtual Cloud Foundation (VCF), and support containerization initiatives using Docker and Kubernetes for seamless hybrid cloud deployments.
- Manage enterprise backup solutions including Cohesity and HPE StoreOnce, and design comprehensive disaster recovery plans for on-premises and hybrid cloud environments, ensuring mission continuity and adherence to Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
- Assess existing Hill CEDC workloads for cloud migration suitability, right-size cloud instances across Microsoft Azure, AWS EC2, and OCI Compute, and execute migrations in coordination with government stakeholders and application owners.
- Develop and maintain IaC pipelines using Terraform and Ansible to automate provisioning of F5 configurations, middleware deployments, and application services across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments, reducing manual effort and ensuring repeatable, auditable deployments.
- Automate hardware configuration, F5 settings, and STIG compliance enforcement using Ansible and PowerShell, ensuring adherence to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and DoW standards while securing hybrid environments with Identity and Access Management (IAM) controls and on-premises STIG implementations.
- Proactively monitor hardware, F5 configurations, and virtual machines (VMs) using SolarWinds and Jira, providing Tier 3 and above support to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues and maintain system stability in support of Air Force-hosted applications.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including hardware optimization strategies, disaster recovery procedures, architecture diagrams, and cloud transition plans to facilitate knowledge transfer, support change management processes, and meet Hill CEDC documentation and data management requirements.
Education, Certification & Experience Requirements:
Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field.

Experience Required:
- 7+ years of experience in systems analysis, virtualization, and enterprise storage management.
- Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and SAN/NAS storage solutions.
- Prior experience in DoD or government data center environments strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge:
- Expert understanding of enterprise hardware infrastructure including server architecture, storage area network (SAN) and network-attached storage (NAS) systems, VMware vSphere virtualization, and multi-vendor data center environments; encompasses hardware optimization, performance tuning, capacity planning, and lifecycle management principles applicable to DoD mission-critical hosting platforms.
- Comprehensive understanding of DoW cybersecurity policy frameworks including DISA STIG compliance, Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes (IAW DoDI 8510.01), NIST Special Publication 800-53, and Information Assurance Vulnerability Alert (IAVA) remediation requirements applicable to classified and unclassified enclave environments.

- Advanced proficiency in hardware and infrastructure automation using Ansible, PowerShell, Python, and Terraform for IaC provisioning, STIG remediation automation, F5 BIG-IP configuration deployment, and VMware environment management across hybrid cloud and on-premises data center environments.
- Proficient application of enterprise monitoring, Tier 3 troubleshooting, and root cause analysis using tools such as SolarWinds and Jira across complex multi-vendor hardware stacks including Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS), HPE, Dell EMC, and Cohesity storage platforms in support of Air Force-hosted application environments.
Abilities:
- Ability to execute complex multi-vendor infrastructure sustainment and modernization tasks independently within a classified DoD environment, including hardware lifecycle planning, cloud migration assessments, disaster recovery execution, and STIG compliance remediation with minimal supervision and within established change management processes.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams including government stakeholders, program managers, cybersecurity personnel, and application owners to communicate infrastructure status, coordinate Change Advisory Board (CAB) submissions, document architecture decisions, and support mission continuity for Air Force enterprise applications.
