Help
  • You will perform routine and preventive maintenance on assigned machinery, tools and equipment.
  • You will carry out planned maintenance system procedures on machines involving the completion of a routine maintenance checklist.
  • You will troubleshoot, repair and install a range of industrial plant equipment used throughout TRIRFFAC shops and onboard submarines.
  • You will align and adjust installed or repaired equipment as necessary to restore proper operational capabilities.
  • You will perform check out of all repair and maintenance work accomplished.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Shift and overtime assignments will be made to meet operational needs.
  • Completion of specific training will be required.
  • Work aboard ships and submarines and within shops may require periods of standing, vertical climbing, stooping, and moving in and out of areas of close confinement.
  • Light to moderate physical exertion will be required in lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 pounds,
  • When heavy lifts cannot be avoided, personnel are required to obtain from other personnel and/or equipment to safely accomplish the lift.
  • Work aboard ships and submarines and within shops may lead to exposure to fumes, electrical shock, flying objects excessive noise, and other adverse environmental conditions.
  • May be required to work at various heights from ladders, scaffolding, buckets, etc. as well as in confined spaces such as trunks or tanks.
  • May be required to work on nuclear systems and participate in RADCON activities as deemed necessary to meet management needs.
  • This position may require travel worldwide, at which time additional medical screening may be required.

Serve as a Production Machinery Mechanic responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, adjusting, manufacturing and installing industrial plant equipment in the various shops. Perform routine and preventative maintenance on assigned machinery, tools, and equipment. Troubleshoot, repair, and install a range of industrial plant equipment used throughout shops and onboard submarines. Trace and locate problems within equipment utilizing shop and manufacturer technical manuals. Disassemble equipment to perform repairs to gearing systems, replace bearings, or replace or repair broken or worn parts. Determine the need for and manufactures replacement parts via operation of a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, shears, brakes, presses, etc.) Perform verification tests on equipment repaired/maintained to certify proper and safe operation.
Energize equipment to conduct visual and operational checks on all crucial components. Demonstrate the ability to lay out work and perform measurements related to machining work associated with the maintenance of industrial plant equipment. Demonstrate the ability to interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints, ship drawings, etc. to perform job duties. Possess the ability to use and maintain tools and equipment related to the machinist trade.
