Help

As a STRATEGIC ANALYST(SENIOR RISK ADVISOR) at the GS-0301-15 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Directs the end-to-end analytical process for the development and production of the Chairman's Risk Assessment (CRA), a statutory report to Congress.
  • Acts as the key advisor to the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Director J-5 and Deputy Director Joint Strategic Planning on the strategic risks inherent in military strategies, operational plans, and new warfighting concepts.
  • Develops, implements, and refines the Joint Risk Assessment Methodology (JRAM), ensuring the Joint Staff employs a rigorous and consistent framework for analyzing risk.
  • Develops and analyzes recommendations for the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS's) military advice to the National Security Council (NSC), the Secretary of Defense, and the President.
  • Provides input on the development of a vision and strategy for the Division and Directorate, including the development of goals and objectives that will enable the Division to accomplish its mission.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-15, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Applies management, program, and organizational principles and practices sufficient to provide advisory services, as well as support to key agency personnel;
  • Applies knowledge and understanding of all policies, procedures, and doctrine applicable to the division and directorate as well as the ability to interpret this guidance and provide authoritative advice to key decision makers;
  • Extrapolates information from questionable or incomplete data, validate analytical conclusions, and integrate contributions from other analysts and/or subject matter experts to prepare finished analytical products for policy related issues;
  • Conducts complex analyses and identify and propose solutions to problems that are often characterized by their breadth, importance, and critical nature which includes knowledge of analytical, evaluative methods ( qualitative and quantitative), and techniques used for assessing strategic risk and improving organizational effectiveness;
  • Applies risk assessment and policy development processes for current and future strategic environments, DoD combatant command capabilities and force structure, and operational and doctrinal concepts, sufficient to provide authoritative assistance to senior military leaders on policy and strategy issues impacting the nation and the Department's contribution to national security.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
