Job Description

Duties

  • You will perform a full range of duties and responsibilities in preventing terrorist activities, resolving offenses, etc.
  • You will mirandize suspects and testify in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations aboard Navy installations.
  • You will collect, protect and process evidence from crime scenes.

  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Employee is required to wear an assigned uniform and display official designated items or accessories to include additional required equipment. The employee must follow and adhere to applicable grooming standards for the installation.
Qualifications

For GS-06:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Issues citations in violation of law enforcement regulations.
  • Conducts investigations related to critical incidents (i.e., traffic accidents, domestic violence, assaults, child abuse/neglect) in accordance to policies and procedures.
  • Interviews witnesses to gather information about incidents.
  • Conducts inspections of vehicles to detect the unauthorized removal of classified material, government property, contraband, weapons, explosives or any items detrimental to security.

For GS-05:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Applying law enforcement and security enforcement procedures, regulations and operations to perform routine and recurring kinds of fixed post assignments.
  • Apprehending or detaining personnel by the use of force or police equipment (i.e., firearms, taser, Oleoresin Capsicum (OS)spray).
  • Preparing police reports concerning incidents and actions taken.
  • Conducting inspections of vehicles to detect the unauthorized removal of classified material, government property, contraband, weapons, explosives, or any items detrimental to security.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (GS-05): Successfully completed a four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or comparable degree program related to the work of the position.

OR

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possess a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal to one-hundred percent.

(NOTE ON SUBSTITUTION OF TRAINING FOR EXPERIENCE): Successful completion of a Federal, State, County or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months specialized experience or 6 months of general experience.

- Shall be required to be CPR certified and utilize a portable heard defibrillator where available.

- Completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) is a condition of continued employment.

This position requires rotating shift work.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
