Job Description

Duties

  • You will serve as an Electronics Technician (AWS BASELINE 9 COMPUTERS) in the Engineering Department.
  • You will perform material conditions reviews, installation functional checkouts, and post-repair acceptance validation.
  • You will serve as advisory role to the Chief Engineer in matter requiring technical authority.
  • You will exercise sound judgment in analyzing and developing approaches to meet the objectives and effecting change solutions as necessary and keep the supervisor informed of progress and potentially controversial problems.
  • You will independently plan and carry out assignments and resolve conflicts.
  • You will coordinate work with ships forces and superiors to resolve scheduling issues in order to meet fleet mission requirements.
  • You will provide technical support and oversight of test programs, modernizations, and repairs.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport. You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a Cyberspace Workforce position, work role code 411, proficiency level Intermediate, the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain qualifications in DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Department of Navy policies.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Troubleshooting, repairing, and configuring AEGIS weapon systems and their interfaces and; 2) Solving problems affecting the AEGIS weapon systems with software, electrical, electronic, and other engineering disciplines and; 3) Providing technical assistance for mission degrading Casualty Reports (CASREP) and providing technical services inspecting, repairing, and providing training on AEGIS computing systems. The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as: high electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear powered ships; explosive, flammable, orincendiary materials, turbines, condensers etc.; and entering enclosed spaces below the ship's waterline. The work is normally required abroad U.S. and foreign naval ships at berths, at anchor or at the buoys within the harbor. There will be requirements to perform temporary duty at sea on naval ships or at naval or private shipyards or combat zones. High line transfer from ship to ship may be required.

This position requires rotating shift work.
