Mechanical Engineer:
Bowhead is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support an upcoming effort at NAWCAD in Patuxent River, MD. The Mechanical Engineer provides mechanical engineering design and production support from project inception through construction, ensuring technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and high-quality deliverables for federal infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical engineering design and production support for new construction and renovation projects
- Develop complete construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and supporting calculations
- Apply knowledge of both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build project delivery methods
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers
- Review mechanical engineering work products for code compliance, constructability, and quality assurance
- Coordinate across disciplines to ensure integration of mechanical systems with overall project design
- Estimate design effort and support negotiations with Architectural-Engineering (A/E) firms and General Contractors
- Review contractor submittals and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) during construction
- Conduct site visits and field observations to verify existing conditions and support renovation and rehabilitation efforts
- Prepare field reports and provide engineering solutions to technical issues identified by the Government
- Ensure professional quality, technical accuracy, and coordination of all engineering deliverables under the contract
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university
- Five (5) years of specialized experience in mechanical and plumbing schematic design and design development, evaluation of new and existing commercial facilities, industrial and health care facilities similar to the building types prevalent in the NAVFAC Washington Area of Responsibility (AOR).
- Experienced in AUTOCAD.
- Working knowledge and experience in design and reviewing of main Air and Water Side and steam Mechanical systems.
- Working knowledge and experience with main mechanical applications software for sizing ductwork and piping systems.
- Ability to design DDC control systems including production of the sequences of operation, point lists and control diagrams.
- Working knowledge of the SpecIntact and ability to produce and edit specification for design projects.
- Working knowledge of the latest UFCs, UFGS, NFPA, International Mechanical and Plumbing Codes. Practical experience with construction site visits and ability to produce field progress reports as needed. Able to provide engineering solutions to problems when requested by the Government.

- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
- Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
