Duties
Help

• Providing primary and continuing dental care to their patients.
• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat a variety of dental conditions such as decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues.
• Complete all necessary diagnostic measures during a dental examination including oral cancer screening.
• Complete all necessary diagnostic measures during a dental examination including oral cancer screening.
• Be familiar with taking radiographs using a variety of equipment and modalities.
• Perform treatment on patients in the following areas: oral medicine, restorative dentistry, preventive dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, oral pathology, minor oral surgery and minor periodontics.
• Perform dental prosthetic treatments such as filings, crowns, fixed partial dentures, space maintenance appliances, removable partial dentures, and using digital dentistry equipment.
• Perform exodontia (simple tooth extractions), pericoronitis treatment, and minor gingival procedures such as gingivoplasty, fiberotomy, mini-flap.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Light lifting under 15lbs.

Basic Requirement for Dentist (General Practice):

Education: Applicants must possess a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience and/or Education Required:

A. Applicants must have completed a 3-year residency in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science, AND one year of full-time experience and/or training in professional dentistry work equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12).

OR

B. Applicants must have four years of professional dentistry experience and/or training, equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12).

OR

C. Applicants must have completed a residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science AND professional dentistry experience and/or training equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12). When combining residency program and professional dentistry experience and/or training to qualify, the total must be equal to or greater than four years.

Note for Qualifying Experience: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.

Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
