Job Description

LNG Safety Engineering Coordinator

***This position requires an active Public Trust clearance. ***

Must be a United States or Japanese citizen with a clear background for government security investigation with the ability to obtain a Clearance or Common Access Card (CAC).

Leads process safety management, technical coordination, and risk governance for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) operations. Serves as the primary process safety subject matter expert, responsible for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating hazards across LNG systems, operations, maintenance, modifications, and performance. Oversees and sustains the facility's Process Safety Management (PSM) program and associated compliance efforts, ensuring safe, reliable operations in alignment with applicable federal, Department of War (DoW), Air Force, and industry standards. Collaborates with operations, engineering, maintenance, emergency response, contracting, and government leadership to safeguard personnel, infrastructure, mission continuity, and government interests, while supporting compliance with OSHA PSM requirements and PHMSA LNG safety regulations (49 CFR Part 193).

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for LNG Safety Engineering Coordinator: $90-100k

Pay commensurate with experience.

LNG Safety Engineering Coordinator Responsibilities Include:
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate activities supporting a comprehensive occupational safety program for LNG plant operations.
  • Review plans and specifications for new construction, major renovations, and equipment modifications to ensure compliance with applicable safety codes and standards.
  • Monitor projects from initiation through completion to verify adherence to established safety requirements.
  • Lead and facilitate process safety studies and formal hazard evaluations, including PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, and other risk-based assessments.
  • Review and update Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) in alignment with the LNG Operational Plan.
  • Provide technical safety training and guidance to supervisors, employees, and safety representatives across operational areas.
  • Conduct and support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action development for process safety events, near misses, and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Develop and deliver training programs and materials for U.S. and Japanese Government personnel to promote safe and efficient LNG operations.
  • Periodically evaluate and update training programs in coordination with stakeholders to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
  • Perform safety investigations for incidents and workplace mishaps.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current on industry trends and technological advancements to enhance safety practices and processes.
  • Oversee key elements of the facility's Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
  • Evaluate PSM processes and procedures to ensure ongoing effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain and manage Process Safety Information (PSI) documentation within designated systems; coordinate updates as needed.
  • Participate in and support audits to ensure compliance with PSI and PSM program requirements.
  • Review and update process safety training programs to reflect operational changes, lessons learned, audit results, and evolving requirements.
  • Assist in revising and improving operating procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate audits of operating procedures to verify adherence and effectiveness.
  • Perform data entry and maintain records in relevant systems to support operational and compliance requirements.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned


LNG Safety Engineering Coordinator Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related technical field from an accredited institution required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience providing safety oversight for new construction, LNG operations, major facility modifications, or equipment changes required.
  • Experience supporting federal government contracts, particularly with the Department of War (DoW), strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze data to solve complex technical problems and manage processes to meet established milestones.
  • Experience with LNG systems-including storage, regasification, distribution, cryogenic equipment, controls, alarms, utilities, and emergency response planning-highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify safety risks, evaluate solutions, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical safety information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to identify hazards in processes and operations and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Relevant experience may include roles such as Safety Manager, Facility Safety Manager, or Process Safety Manager.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred.
  • Ability to successfully meet pre-employment requirements in accordance with Cherokee Federal standards.
  • Strong understanding of EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) principles and accident prevention requirements, as applicable to government-directed LNG operations.
  • Working knowledge of industry-recognized LNG and process safety standards, including NFPA 59A and related fire protection and hazard management practices.
