Job Description

Duties

  • You will prepare designs and specifications for project contract solicitation and execution primarily involving repair, maintenance, and new construction of mechanical systems and other utilities systems with mechanical components.
  • You will perform designs, mechanical calculations, equipment selections, write Request for Proposals (RFPs) and specifications, and prepare drawings and construction cost estimates.
  • You will review, assess, and resolve construction and design problems encountered during the performance of projects assigned.
  • You will provide technical support to include reviewing/approving contractor's Quality Management System (QMS) and reporting deficiencies to the Facilities Support Contracts Manager (FSCM) or the Contracting Officer.
  • You will maintain awareness of current advances in mechanical engineering design, materials, construction methods, and Department of Defense (DoD) criteria.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

  • Work may require some physical exertion with recurring periods of driving, bending, crouching, stooping, crawling, stretching, reaching, climbing, digging, and cutting of vegetation or similar activities during field visits.
  • Work may require lifting of moderately heavy items, such as record file boxes, project drawings, and other similar items.
  • Work may require some on-site visits that are in environmentally hazardous or explosive hazardous areas.
  • You may be required to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), protective clothing and gear, such as hard hats, masks, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, fall protection, etc and other specific gear and equipment that pertains to a specific job or site.
  • Work sites may require special safety precautions such as working around moving parts, carts, or machines and possible exposure to loud noises, irritant chemicals, and explosive materials.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You must obtain within a reasonable amount of time, and maintain a base driving permit in order to operate base passenger vehicles that are available for staff to accomplish site visits not in walking distance of the office.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Interpreting, selecting, adapting and applying guidelines, precedents, and practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices that relate to the areas of specialization.
