Job Description

Senior SOF Operations Advisor

This position requires an active Top-Secret clearance to be considered.

A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. You must provide documentation that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify.

The Senior SOF Operations Advisor provides strategic-level operational planning, advisory, and execution support within a Joint Special Operations environment. This role supports crisis response, readiness, and operational integration efforts aligned with national policy directives (PPD-30 / NSPM-36). The Advisor leverages extensive Special Operations experience to support battle staff activities, joint planning processes, and mission execution across Combatant Command (CCMD), Theater Special Operations Command (TSOC), and Joint Task Force (JTF) environments.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Senior SOF Operations Advisor: Pay commensurate with experience.

Senior SOF Operations Advisor Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide direct support to Joint SOF crisis response planning and execution
  • Contribute to crisis action planning (CAP) and contingency operations aligned to national directives
  • Support operational planning efforts across J3/J35/J5/J37 functions
  • Serve as a senior advisor to battle staff operations, including current and future operations
  • Support exercises, readiness events, and planning activities (e.g., ELLIPSE, joint training events)
  • Assist in development of operational products, briefings, and decision-support materials
  • Integrate with CCMD, TSOC, and Service component headquarters staff
  • Coordinate across joint, interagency, and SOF elements to ensure mission alignment
  • Support readiness assessments, after-action reviews (AARs), and operational reporting
  • Support joint training and exercise planning (JELC/JOPP frameworks)
  • Contribute to readiness evaluations and operational capability assessments
  • Provide subject matter expertise on SOF mission sets and crisis response integration
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned


Senior SOF Operations Advisor Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
  • 15+ years of Special Operations experience
  • Former O-5+, CW3+, or E-9+
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience at Joint, CCMD, Service HQ, or USSOCOM HQ staff
  • Minimum 2 years supporting Joint SOF crisis response operations aligned to PPD-30 / NSPM-36
  • Demonstrated experience supporting battle staff planning, training, and/or execution (e.g., crisis action planning, readiness events, exercises)
  • Prior service within Joint SOF, TSOC, or CCMD staff environments
  • Experience as a Future Operations Planner, Battle Captain, CAT member, or Joint Exercise Planner
  • Background supporting SMU, National Mission Force, or SOF operational units (SF, NSW, MARSOC, AFSOC, Ranger Regiment)
  • Experience within JTF/JSOTF headquarters or deployable task force environments
  • Experience leading readiness assessments, AARs, and operational evaluations
  • Deep understanding of Joint/SOF operational planning processes
  • Strong strategic thinking and operational problem-solving skills
  • Ability to operate in high-tempo, sensitive, and complex environments
  • Excellent communication and briefing skills for senior leadership engagement
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
