Job Description

The Red Gate Group is seeking a Special Operations Policy Analyst to provide analytical, policy, and operational support to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict (AS W SO/LIC), with a focus on irregular warfare, counterterrorism, and sensitive special operations. This role supports senior Department of Defense ( Do W ) leadership by developing policy guidance, coordinating across stakeholders, and enabling oversight of Combatant Command (CCMD) Special Operations activities.

Key Responsibilities

Policy and Strategic Support

  • Support the development, review, and coordination of Special Operations policies, plans, and guidance across the Do W and interagency .
  • Monitor and evaluate policy issuances related to counterterrorism, irregular warfare, Military Information Support Operations (MISO), and counter-uncrewed aircraft systems (c-UAS).
  • Assess Combatant Command (CCMD) Special Operations programs and plans for policy alignment and strategic impact.
  • Provide recommendations on policy issues, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Deliver high-quality analytical and technical support to senior offices, including DAS W -level organizations.
  • Produce written assessments of political, institutional, and operational environments influencing Special Operations activities.
  • Analyze program data and contribute to quarterly and annual reports for senior leadership and Congress.
  • Monitor Department-wide initiatives related to Special Operations and identify implications for policy and execution.
  • Coordinate with internal Do W stakeholders, interagency partners, and Legislative Affairs offices on policy matters and congressional engagement.
  • Support development of annual posture statements, reports, and briefings to Congress.
  • Advise stakeholders on Special Operations capabilities and facilitate integration across organizations.
  • Develop and deliver tailored briefings, talking points, and strategic communications for senior Do W leadership, including Assistant Secretaries of Defense and the Under Secretary of War for Policy.
  • Translate complex operational concepts into clear, decision-ready materials.


Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting Special Operations, defense policy, or related mission areas.


Education

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.


Security Clearance

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting the Office of the Secretary of War (OS W ), Joint Staff, or Combatant Commands.
  • Familiarity with DoD policy development processes and issuance coordination.
  • Experience with congressional reporting and legislative engagement.
  • Strong understanding of irregular warfare, counterterrorism, and information operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop senior-level briefings and written products.
