Job Description
The Red Gate Group is seeking a Controller to lead accounting operations and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role oversees day-to-day accounting functions, manages the monthly close process, and ensures compliance with GAAP and government contracting requirements.
The Controller will serve as a hands-on financial leader, balancing strategic financial oversight with active participation in accounting operations. This position manages a small accounting team.
The Controller will report directly to executive leadership and play a key role in maintaining financial transparency, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
Government Contract Accounting
Financial Leadership
• Provide financial insight and analysis to executive leadership
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance monitoring
• Monitor cash flow and overall financial health
Team & Systems Oversight
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff
• Provide financial oversight of payroll accounting and related accruals
• Oversee accounting operations within Deltek Costpoint and ensure accurate financial system usage
• Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities
• Extensive experience in government contractor accounting
• Strong experience using Deltek Costpoint in a government contracting environment
• Knowledge of GAAP, job cost accounting, and DCAA compliance
• Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
Preferred
• CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred
• Experience supporting financial audits and compliance reviews
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, or financial planning

Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements
- Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure accurate financial reporting
- Lead the set-up of new projects to ensure accurate billing and revenue recognition
Government Contract Accounting
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, DCAA guidance, and government contract accounting requirements
- Oversee revenue recognition across cost-plus, time-and-materials, and firm-fixed-price contracts
- Support development and monitoring of indirect rates, including provisional billing rates and incurred cost submissions
- Support government and financial audits
Financial Leadership
• Provide financial insight and analysis to executive leadership
