Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for their engineering and sustainment contract supporting Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMSUBPAC).

Serco is seeking an Assistant Electronics Material Officer (AEMO) to help maintain and improve material readiness of the Submarine Force in the Indo Pacific Region. The AEMO directly supports Commander, Submarine Development Squadron Five (CSDS-5) in Bangor, WA, which is home to three SEAWOLF-Class attack submarines. The Electronics Material Office maintains readiness of its assigned submarines' electronics for combat systems, radar and electronic warfare, imaging, navigation, and communications, submarine sail structures, micro-miniature repair, and unmanned underwater vehicles.

In this role, you will:
  • Conduct ship visits to assist Commander, Submarine Development Squadron Five Electronics Material Officer (CSDS-5 EMO) in monitoring the operation and maintenance of submarine systems and events on assigned units
  • Assist the CSDS-5 EMO with system grooms and certifications
  • Participate in daily meetings, providing accurate information to the Electronics Material Officer and squadron leadership to include the Squadron Commodore
  • Coordinate with representatives from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and other outside agencies.
  • Participate in scheduled production briefs, sail meetings and EMO Conferences
  • Manage Type Commander-controlled ready-for-issue periscope and antenna assets
  • Conduct performance monitoring of TFBR's, CASREPS, metrics, configuration management, and monitor obsolescence of shipboard systems
  • Oversee or monitor system technology improvements, temporary alterations (TEMPALTs), equipment, technical documentation and failure documentation/data
  • Coordinate, process, and route MOAs in support of electronics material troubleshooting, repair and coordination as directed by the incumbent EMO
  • Provide coordination in fleet technical support, integration of system experts, field testing, root cause, performance assessment, risk assessment and mitigation, planning and cost benefit analysis.


To be successful in this position, you will have:
  • An active Secret clearance
  • A Bachelor's degree in a technical or similar field
    • A high school diploma/GED and 4 years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree in a technical field
  • 15 years' experience with submarine communications systems
  • 15 years' experience with submarine electronic systems such as EW (BLQ-10), Periscope (Type 8 and Type 18), Radars (BPS-15) and Navigation (VMS and AIS)
  • 12 years of experience in submarine maintenance, IMA, or submarine repair
  • Experience with SEAWOLF-Class submarines
  • The ability to travel up to 25%


Additional desired experience and skills:
  • Prior active duty submarine service
  • Experience working on a submarine staff at Type Commander or Squadron level
