Description
The System Architect Senior supports the SEC ISS contract by architecting and managing enterprise infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments to enable secure, reliable agency operations. This role leads modernization initiatives aligned to OIT priorities, including hybrid cloud adoption and virtualization advancement. The architect translates business and functional requirements into scalable technical solutions, drives cross-functional execution, and validates technologies through proofs of concept (POCs), pilots, and demonstrations. The position provides senior technical leadership for system integration, scalability, and security architecture to improve resilience and operational efficiency.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enterprise Architecture and Modernization
- Architect and manage enterprise IT systems across compute, storage, operating systems, virtualization, and cloud platforms supporting SEC mission services.
- Lead transformation initiatives that improve efficiency, performance, and scalability through modernization of legacy infrastructure.
- Define target-state and transition-state architectures for hybrid environments integrating on-premises systems with cloud services.
- Ensure architecture decisions align with SEC OIT objectives , operational priorities, and service delivery outcomes.
- May require participation in on-call or surge support activities depending on operational needs .
Technical Leadership and Cross-Functional Execution
- Lead and mentor multi-discipline server and systems operations teams across engineering, operations, and security stakeholders.
- Translate functional and operational requirements into technical designs, implementation plans, and measurable outcomes.
- Collaborate with program, operations, and support teams to remove delivery blockers and drive execution across workstreams.
- Provide expert guidance during incidents, major changes, and high-impact initiatives requiring senior architectural oversight.
Technology Evaluation and Integration
- Identify , evaluate, and recommend technologies that meet defined technical, security, and operational requirements.
- Plan and execute proofs of concept (POCs), pilots, and demonstrations to validate feasibility and suitability.
- Establish integration patterns that improve interoperability across enterprise platforms, tools, and services.
- Drive adoption of automation and engineering best practices to improve repeatability and service maturity.
Security, Scalability, and Reliability Architecture
- Provide technical leadership for secure system integration, performance engineering, and resilient architecture design.
- Incorporate federal security and compliance considerations into infrastructure designs and operational baselines.
- Design for high availability, disaster recovery readiness, and scalable growth across enterprise environments.
- Partner with security and operations teams to address risk, strengthen controls, and maintain continuous service reliability.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- This position is restricted to U.S. citizens only. Applicants must not hold dual citizenship with any other country to be eligible for work under this contract.
- The ability to obtain and maintain SEC Public Trust (or higher if required ) .
- Bachelors Degree and 8+ years of experience in engineering and architecting enterprise IT systems. Additional years of experience maybe considered in lieu of degree.
- Proven experience managing multi-discipline server and system operations teams in complex enterprise environments.
- Extensive knowledge of multi-vendor server operating systems.
- Must possess a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) - Server Infrastructure Certification or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrated ability to translate functional requirements into technical solutions and lead cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience supporting hybrid cloud operations spanning Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and AWS-integrated environments.
- Experience leading enterprise virtualization modernization and workload migration initiatives.
- Experience with container platform modernization, including OpenShift migration or operations exposure.
- Active SEC Public Trust or prior federal background investigation eligibility.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- ITIL 4 Foundation
