Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Shipboard fire suppression; 2) Support emergency operations as incident safety officer; 3) Evaluate shipboard fire prevention program to identify gaps in risk assessments; 4) Conduct training and advise ship leadership for shipboard response and support while in port; and 5) Perform supervisory duties such as managing, organizing, directing, providing technical leadership and guidance, assigning and prioritizing work, position management, evaluating work performance of subordinates and resolving disciplinary issues. Physical Demands
The incumbent will be required to work under extreme pressure and cope with stressful situations where confusion, panic, injury, or death may occur. May be required to wear personal protective equipment in excess of 50 pounds when working in operations. The work may be subjected to long hours in precarious locations or positions. Must successfully pass an annual physical and participate in the Navy firefighting physical fitness program.
Work Environment
The incumbent may be exposed to a wide variety of emergency situations. They may suffer from burns, dehydration, excessive heat, smoke inhalation, heavy protective clothing, falling materials, or explosions. They are subject to physical injury and sensory damage from firefighting activities, exposure to HazMat, specialty rescue operations, and high noise levels. They must deal with victims in emergency situations that may be in varying
stages of fright, panic, injury, and shock. There may be hazards while operating or riding fire apparatus under adverse conditions. The incumbent can be required to work outside in all types of weather conditions, and requires the use of protective clothing or gear, such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, and appropriate body substance isolation equipment.

- You will collaborate with fire fighter personnel to ensure emergency responses (e.g., fire suppression, injured victims, hazardous spill cleanup) are assigned.
- Advising the command and senior leadership on fire protection and related emergency response activities.
- You will act as a liaison with other agencies to establish, modify, and oversee all mutual aid agreements dealing with emergency response capabilities.
- You will maintain awareness of changes in federal, state, or local fire service ordinances and laws to convey information to junior employees.
- You will train firefighters on shipboard, structural, confined space, and hazardous materials firefighting procedures.
