Clearance: Nato Secret or US Secret

Job Summary

Mission Essential is seeking Cleared Ukrainian Linguists to provide comprehensive translation and interpretation support for conference operations, including working groups and related engagements. This role supports multilingual communication between Ukrainian- and English-speaking participants, particularly in a professional or military context. Due to operational requirements, linguists will be expected to translate into both Ukrainian and English and provide interpretation support in dynamic, fast-paced environments. Duties include but are not limited to:

Translation

• Translate written materials, primarily military correspondence, as well as conference documents, presentations, and technical materials, between Ukrainian and English
• Produce translations into both languages as required by operational needs
• Submit completed translations for review by senior linguists
• Revise translations based on feedback, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and fitness for purpose
• Return finalized documents to the designated assigning officer within required timelines

Working Group Interpretation

• Provide chuchotage (whispered) or consecutive interpretation during working groups and small meetings
• Accurately interpret statements delivered in either conference language by multinational participants
• Use note-taking techniques to support consecutive interpretation without restricting speakers' natural flow
• Facilitate effective communication on topics of shared interest or operational importance
• Support informal or ad hoc interpretation needs during conference activities

Conference Linguistic Support

• Deliver translation and interpretation services across all aspects of conference execution
• Support communication in meetings, briefings, and small group discussions
• Translate supplementary materials such as drawings, agendas, and reports
• Provide additional linguistic assistance as required to ensure smooth conference operations

Tools and Compliance

• Use only authorized, contract-approved translation tools
• The use of unauthorized tools, including external software or artificial intelligence, is strictly prohibited
• Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all security and operational protocols

Additional Duties

• Perform all assigned linguistic tasks as required
• Adapt to evolving conference needs, including additional translation or interpretation assignments

REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications

• Have provided translation or interpretation support in English and Ukrainian to a minimum of 4 high level conferences or equivalent high-visibility events within the last 4 years. Listed experience on resumes should contain duration, type of event, type of translation/interpretation provided, translated languages, etc.
• Demonstrate a strong knowledge of military vocabulary
• Demonstrate the ability to translate a minimum of 500 words a day in English-Ukrainian
• Hold a valid NATO security clearance up to NS
• All documents shall be written in English.
• MUST HAVE ACTIVE CLEARANCE

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in interpretation or translation
• Experience supporting international conferences or diplomatic events
• Familiarity with conference terminology and technical vocabulary
• Additional language skills are a plus
