Job Description
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior VDI Engineer (Horizon / VMware) to support a mission-critical federal program. The Senior VDI Engineer will play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments in a secure, enterprise setting. This is a hands-on engineering role ideal for candidates with strong VMware Horizon experience and a background in high-security environments. This position is fully onsite in Newington, VA.
Responsibilities of the Senior VDI Engineer include:
• Design, implement, and support enterprise VDI environments using VMware Horizon (Omnissa) hosted on vSphere
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across VDI infrastructure, images, and user environments
• Manage and optimize VDI images, profiles, and configurations to improve performance and user experience
• Perform pre-production testing and validation of VDI image updates and changes
• Support and manage thin client environments using tools such as Wyse Management Suite
• Automate processes and workflows using PowerShell and other scripting tools
• Monitor system performance and health using VDI monitoring tools (e.g., Liquidware Stratusphere)
• Ensure compliance with DISA STIGs and security best practices
• Collaborate with engineering, security, and operations teams to support mission objectives
Qualifications of the Senior VDI Engineer include:
• Active TS/SCI clearance required
• Security+ certification required
• 5+ years of experience supporting VDI or virtualized environments (not strictly architecture-level)
• Hands-on experience with VMware Horizon (Omnissa) and vSphere environments
• Experience managing thin clients and endpoint devices
• Strong understanding of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and their impact on VDI environments
• Experience with profile management tools such as FSLogix or similar
• Familiarity with DISA STIGs and security compliance requirements
• Experience with scripting (PowerShell preferred)
• Experience with Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP
Preferred Qualifications for the Senior VDI Engineer include:
• Experience with Image as Code tools such as HashiCorp Packer
• Experience with Liquidware Stratusphere or similar monitoring tools
• Familiarity with 802.1x and NDES
• Experience with endpoint security tools such as CrowdStrike or Trellix
• Experience with application packaging tools such as FlexApp
Compensation for the Senior VDI Engineer includes:
• Salary: $155,000 - $175,000
