This Opportunity

Versar is seeking a full-time Duty Officer at our location in Rota, Spain. The ideal candidate will support a 24/7-day operations by performing all tasks associated with the safe and correct operation of the Air Terminal as directed by management, regulations, policies, Instructions and the Performance Work Statement.

Your Impact

  • Acts on behalf of the Station Manager and Alternate Station Manager when required.
  • Serve as the on-duty operational authority and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all Versar ATGHS functions during assigned shifts.
  • Coordinate and synchronize activities across all functional areas, including ATOC, load planning, ramp operations, cargo processing, passenger services
  • Responsible for safely managing and supporting all aerial port resources and operations to sustain a Working Maximum on Ground (WMOG) of three (3) aircraft at one time.
  • Ensure maximum aircraft utilization and on-time aircraft departures, including resolving situational issues, gathering, processing and disseminating information in accordance with Air Mobility Command Instruction DAFI 24-605, Volume 2, DTR, and other applicable instructions.
  • Supervise coordinated support for AMC, US Navy, NATO, foreign military, SAAM, DV and Commercial tendered missions in accordance with local policies and contractual requirements.
  • Maintain oversight of required logs, reports, and operational records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Ensure proper execution and documentation of cargo, passenger, and aircraft handling processes.
  • Provides detailed information concerning potential delays, actual delays, or aborts to appropriate agencies/personnel.
  • Monitors all flight line activities and takes appropriate and immediate action to implement corrective actions when warranted.
  • Ensure required flight schedules are completed and disseminated as per the PWS.
  • Ensure all communications, whether from Versar or the USG, are properly disseminated to all work sections.
  • Responsible for the coordination, supervision and execution of the Human Remains (HR) program as per the requirement in the PWS.
  • Ensure all mishaps, incidents, and injuries are reported in accordance with contract, company and Government requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper aircraft arrival announcements are completed.
  • Responsible for ensuring the timely movement of Air Mobility Command (AMC) Mission Impaired Capability Awaiting Parts (MICAP) assets.
  • Ensure proper coordination of DV mission support to all concerned sections is accomplished.
  • Ensure proper coordination and monitoring of crew and passenger shuttles, for both military and commercial missions.
  • Responsible for ensuring coordinated activities for explosive shipments and monitor explosive movement requirements with all agencies and downline stations.
  • Responsible for ensuring diplomatic and explosive clearances have been correctly obtained to meet mission requirements.
  • Responsible for monitoring aerial port cargo backlogs, coordinate mission planning with TACC/AMD, and coordinating Special Assignment Airlift Mission (SAAM) requirements with requesting units.
  • Responsible for filing and quality control checks on all transportation documents and mission folders.
  • Responsible for monitoring section and flight line operational and safety procedures and take appropriate actions when required.
  • Monitors and supervise the execution of Emergency Quick Reaction Checklists (QRC’s) as per the PWS and ensure personnel are trained regarding the use of QRC’s.
  • DO will work in physically challenging position; extended periods of standing, walking, pushing, and lifting are required.
  • DO will be required to work in all areas of ATGHS and is expected to proactively resolve challenges IAW published guidance and regulations.
  • DO is expected to maintain open and clear channels of communication with leadership and workforce.
  • Effectively navigate language and cultural differences to ensure clarity of direction and mission execution.
  • DO is expected to lead a unionized Local National workforce to ensure that PWS and mission requirements are met and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is respected.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence
  • The Duty Officer (DO) is expected to serve as a key member of the management team, operating within established operational and ethical standards. Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Must have computer skills and be able to operate a variety of computer programs.


  • Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date
  • Must maintain a valid passport from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date. Passport must have a minimum of 6 blank pages prior to OCONUS mobilization.
  • Must be CAC eligible and able to gain and maintain authorized entry onto US military installations.

Additional Required Qualifications

  • Must have six (6) years of extensive experience in managing air terminal operations management. Preferably a retired US Military with the AFSC of 2T2.
  • Must demonstrate expertise in all air terminal sections and flight-line operations without additional supervision required.
  • Must have computer skills and be able to operate a variety of computer programs. Must be detail oriented, motivated and drive to perform at a high level.
  • Must be able to comprehend English to include reading and writing. Spanish is highly valued yet not a requirement.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • You will be required to maintain a valid passport.
  • You will be required to maintain Secret clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain the AVOC license to operate on the flight line.
  • Must not actively or previously hold a Spanish Residency
  • Must be able to obtain an ODC clearance (Host Nation requirement)
