Network Technician
90-Day Contract (Possible Extensions)
Role Overview
The Network Technician will serve as the on-site technical lead for a fast-paced Wireless Access Point (WAP) replacement initiative. This is a 90-day contract engagement, responsible for overseeing the removal of legacy wireless equipment and supporting the deployment of new access points within an active enterprise environment. This role acts as both the senior technical resource and field lead, ensuring technical accuracy, wireless performance validation, and a polished handover at project completion.
Technical Responsibilities
Device Staging & Configuration
Lead the preparation and initial configuration of wireless access points, confirming all hardware is staged and deployed in accordance with defined technical requirements.
Wireless Validation & Analysis
Perform post-installation wireless surveys and produce coverage documentation using professional tools such as Ekahau or Hamina to confirm signal strength and coverage consistency.
RF Optimization
Execute radio frequency tuning and optimization, including power adjustments, to support a seamless single‑SSID wireless experience across the environment.
Advanced Troubleshooting
Act as the primary escalation point for complex wireless, connectivity, or infrastructure issues encountered during deployment.
Field Leadership & Project Support
Team Coordination
Provide day-to-day direction to Network Field Technicians, assigning work locations and priorities to maintain schedule adherence within approved change windows.
Asset Tracking & Documentation
Maintain accurate records of deployed hardware, including serial numbers, MAC addresses, and assigned access point details.
IT Asset Management Alignment
Ensure all newly installed devices are properly documented and updated within the IT Asset Management (ITAM) system.
Closeout Reporting
Deliver final technical documentation, wireless validation results, and deployment summaries at the conclusion of the contract period.
Required Skills & Experience
Network Background
Minimum 5 years of experience supporting network infrastructure initiatives, with a focus on wireless deployments and hardware refresh projects.
Wireless Expertise
Strong understanding of Wi‑Fi standards (802.11), SSID design, roaming behavior, and enterprise wireless performance optimization.
Survey Tool Proficiency
Hands-on experience with commercial wireless survey platforms such as Ekahau, Hamina, or AirMagnet.
Process & ITSM Awareness
Familiarity with structured IT service environments and asset management systems.
Leadership Capability
Proven ability to lead field resources in a high‑velocity project environment while maintaining strong quality‑control standards.
Schedule Flexibility
Availability to work weekends and approved weekday change windows to minimize business disruption.
