Job Description
The Armament Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, loading, and functional testing of the F-16 aircraft weapons systems to ensure safe, reliable, and mission-ready aircraft. This role supports operational excellence by maintaining the structural, mechanical, electrical, and electronic components that make up the aircraft's armament systems. Additionally, the Armament Technician plays a critical role in sustaining the aircraft's combat capability and flight line readiness through expert maintenance and strict adherence to safety standards. This position is contingent upon contract award. An offer of employment may be extended prior to award; however, employment will be contingent upon the Company's award and subsequent contract funding.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and advise aircraft armament systems including racks, pylons, launchers, guns, and suspension equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Safely install, align, remove, and configure weapons racks, pylons, gun systems, and external stores in accordance with technical data and mission requirements.
- Perform loading, unloading, arming, de-arming, and safing procedures for a variety of munitions, ensuring strict compliance with safety and security protocols.
- Perform system tests and built-in-test procedures to verify proper function and reliability of armament and release systems.
- Inspect, service, and operate armament handling and test equipment, weapons trailers, munitions handling tools, and related ground support systems.
- Read, interpret, and apply aircraft maintenance manuals, technical orders, schematics, and safety procedures to perform maintenance accurately and efficiently.
- Follow all explosive safety standards, weapons handling protocols, and environmental regulations, including proper storage and accountability of ordnance.
- Accurately record all maintenance, inspections, and repairs in required maintenance tracking systems in accordance with company, client, and regulatory procedures.
- Provide weapons system support during aircraft launch and recovery operations, ensuring aircraft are properly configured, armed, and mission ready.
- Clean, lubricate, and preserve armament components to maintain operational condition and extend service life.
- Participate in recurring weapons safety and technical training, and stay current with system updates and munitions handling procedures.
- Coordinate with avionics, fuels, electrical, and crew chief teams to troubleshoot and resolve cross-system maintenance issues efficiently.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a working knowledge of weapons systems and components on the F-16 aircraft.
- Must be able to perform ground handling, minor maintenance, and servicing.
- Proven track record of success working on complex assignments requiring considerable judgment, initiative, and technical/specialized knowledge.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while fostering a positive attitude.
- Must have strong problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in the English language with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must demonstrate safe and healthy workplace practices.
- Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must be able to travel within the US and internationally.
- Must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities of an Armament Technician II in daily work performance.
- Must be able to work in various weather environments and conditions.
- Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) and not be barred from any installation.
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required
- A minimum of 5 years' direct flightline Weapons/Armament Maintenance experience and training on F-16 aircraft.
- A minimum of 2 years back shop armament experience a plus
WORK CONDITIONS
- This position requires overseas deployment where the Technician will perform.
- Must demonstrate the ability to operate effectively and self-sufficiently in a foreign environment, including communication, local navigation, and personal sustainability.
SPECIAL WORK CONDITIONS
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Secret and appropriate host nation clearance(s). Ongoing eligibility is subject to periodic review. Strict adherence to all security protocols, procedures, and training is required.
- Must possess a valid U.S. passport with no travel restrictions, limitations, or disqualifications, with a validity extending a minimum 6 months beyond the projected assignment completion date.
- Must be able to secure all required work authorizations, including a valid work visa for the host country. Any prior immigration violations, criminal offenses, or adverse travel history that may prevent entry will not be considered.
- Adherence to the legal, regulatory, safety, and operational requirements of the host nation is mandatory throughout the duration of assignment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, talk, walk, hear, see, and reach with hands and arms.
- This position requires close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- This role is performed in hazardous duty locations, around loud noises and hazardous chemicals with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The Aircraft Technician III must be able to work in environments with exposure to noise, chemicals, dust, and varying weather conditions.
- This position may require working in environments where combat-related personal protective equipment is issued and must be worn, such as ballistic vests, helmets, or other protective gear. The Technician must be able to properly don, wear, and operate effectively while using such equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work conditions may require quick movement or repositioning in response to safety, operational, or environmental needs.
- Duties may involve standing, walking, bending, climbing, or working in confined or elevated areas for extended periods.
- The essential duties and responsibilities are performed in a dynamic, high-tempo environment, while earing required protective equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
