Job Description
The Life Support Equipment (LSE) Technician II (Technician) is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and issue of aircrew life support and survival equipment specific to F-16 fighter aircraft operations. This role ensures all life support systems and equipment used by aircrew are serviceable, properly configured, and compliant with technical data, safety standards, and mission requirements. Additionally, the Technician works with limited supervision and may provide task-based guidance to client and lower-level Company personnel. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, testing, cleaning, maintenance, and repair of F-16 life support and AFE equipment including, but not limited to:
- Helmets, visors, masks, and communication components;
- Anti-G suits and vests;
- Harnesses, torso restraint systems, and survival vests;
- Parachutes, drogue chute components, and seat kit assemblies (as applicable to unit configuration);
- Oxygen systems, regulators, hoses, fittings, and CRU-60/103/122 components;
- Life rafts, flotation devices, and survival kit contents;
- Personal Locator Beacons (PLB) and emergency signaling devices.
- Conduct operational checks, leak tests, fit checks, continuity checks, and proper configuration of equipment for mission profiles.
- Prepare and stage equipment for flight operations, ensuring accurate issue and accountability to aircrew.
- Interpret and apply Technical Orders (TOs), OEM manuals, regulatory guidance, and engineering directives for AFE and F-16 specific life-support systems.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, configurations, repairs, shelf-life tracking, and component histories in accordance with client, Company, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Tool Control, FOD prevention, PPE, hazardous materials handling, OSHA, and Aircrew Flight Equipment safety procedures.
- Maintain strict accountability, tracking, storage, and issue control for AFE components and survival equipment.
- Maintain life support shop equipment, calibration items, test equipment, and supplies required to support operations.
- Assist with fabrication, sewing, assembling, and modification of life support equipment and survival kit components.
- Support aircrew fittings, training on proper equipment use and care, and mission-specific life-support briefings.
- Provide OJT-level guidance and mentorship to client Life Support Technician and Company lower-level technicians.
- Support quality assurance reviews, audits, and compliance inspections as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to read and apply Technical Orders, AFIs, AFMANs, OEM manuals, wiring/oxygen diagrams, and configuration guidance.
- Sewing machine proficiency and experience with fabric/leather repair and modification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain qualification/certification per contract or regulatory requirements. Proficient in the English language with effective communication and mentoring skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge of survival, rescue, and emergency egress interface systems.
- Must be able to work independently or part of a team.
- Must demonstrate safe and healthy workplace practices.
- Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must be able to travel within the US and internationally.
- Must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities of an NDI Technician II in daily work performance.
- Must be able to work in hazardous locations and various weather environments and conditions.
- Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) and not be barred from any installation.
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIEINCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of life support / AFE experience with at least 3 years supporting F-16 aircraft.
- Prior USAF Aircrew Flight Equipment / Life Support experience (e.g., AFSC 1P0X1) preferred.
- FAA certified rigger a plus
WORK CONDITIONS
- This position requires overseas deployment where the Technician will perform.
- Must demonstrate the ability to operate effectively and self-sufficiently in a foreign environment, including communication, local navigation, and personal sustainability.
SPECIAL WORK CONDITIONS
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Secret and appropriate host nation clearance(s). Ongoing eligibility is subject to periodic review. Strict adherence to all security protocols, procedures, and training is required.
- Must possess a valid U.S. passport with no travel restrictions, limitations, or disqualifications, with a validity extending a minimum 6 months beyond the projected assignment completion date.
- Must be able to secure all required work authorizations, including a valid work visa for the host country. Any prior immigration violations, criminal offenses, or adverse travel history that may prevent entry will not be considered.
- Adherence to the legal, regulatory, safety, and operational requirements of the host nation is mandatory throughout the duration of assignment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, talk, walk, hear, see, and reach with hands and arms.
- This position requires close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- This role is performed in hazardous duty locations, around loud noises and hazardous chemicals with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The Technician I must be able to work in environments with exposure to noise, chemicals, dust, and varying weather conditions.
- This position may require working in environments where combat-related personal protective equipment is issued and must be worn, such as ballistic vests, helmets, or other protective gear. The Technician must be able to properly don, wear, and operate effectively while using such equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work conditions may require quick movement or repositioning in response to safety, operational, or environmental needs.
- Duties may involve standing, walking, bending, climbing, or working in confined or elevated areas for extended periods.
- The essential duties and responsibilities are performed in a dynamic, high-tempo environment, while earing required protective equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
- Any offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of all pre-employment requirements, which may include background checks, employment verification, security clearance, reference checks, and other conditions determined by the company.
- This position is contingent upon contract award. An offer of employment may be extended prior to award; however, employment will be contingent upon the Company's award and subsequent contract funding.
