Job Description
The Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Technician II (Technician) performs intermediate-level non-destructive inspections, analysis, and evaluations on F-16 aircraft structures, components, and support equipment to detect defects, discontinuities, and material irregularities affecting airworthiness and mission readiness. This role applies multiple inspection methods in accordance with technical data, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Technician works with limited supervision and may provide task-based guidance to client and lower-level Company personnel. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform non-destructive inspections on F-16 aircraft, components, and support equipment using one or more NDI methods, including Eddy Current (ET), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Liquid Penetrant (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT) (if certified/authorized).
- Conduct inspections to detect cracks, corrosion, delamination, heat damage, wear, structural flaws, and manufacturing defects.
- Set up, calibrate, and operate NDI equipment and reference standards to determine serviceability and conformance to technical requirements.
- Analyze inspection results, interpret discontinuities, and recommend repair, re-inspection intervals, or removal-from-service actions.
- Support aircraft phase, isochronal, heavy maintenance, time-change, and unscheduled maintenance requirements.
- Review and apply Technical Orders (TOs), OEM manuals, applicable regulation standards, and engineering directives.
- Accurately document all inspection results in required aircraft forms, maintenance information systems, and traceability records.
- Maintain NDI records, inspection histories, and calibration documentation in accordance with QA, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Tool Control, FOD, PPE, OSHA, and environmental and radiation safety requirements, as applicable.
- Maintain NDI equipment, consumables, and materials; identify needs for calibration, certification, or replacement.
- Assist with maintaining inspection reference standards, technique sheets, and laboratory controls.
- Support continuous improvement, QA audits, and process enhancements.
- Provide guidance and OJT-style mentorship to NDI client and lower-level Company technicians.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to interpret and apply USAF Technical Orders, OEM manuals, and industry standards.
- Ability to obtain and maintain qualification/certification per contract or regulatory requirements. Proficient in the English language with effective communication and mentoring skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge of hazardous materials, radiation safety, and industrial safety programs related to NDI.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is preferred.
- Must be able to work independently or part of a team.
- Must demonstrate safe and healthy workplace practices.
- Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must be able to travel within the US and internationally.
- Must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities of an NDI Technician II in daily work performance.
- Must be able to work in hazardous locations and various weather environments and conditions.
- Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) and not be barred from any installation.
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIEINCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of NDI experience with 2 years support F-16 aircraft.
- Must hold Level II certification (or military equivalent) in at least two (2) NDI methods (ET, UT, MT, PT required; RT strongly preferred if applicable), meeting NAS 410, ASNT SNT-TC-1A, or USAF 2A7X2 standards.
- Level III certification a plus
- Experience performing NDI on F-16 primary and secondary structures, landing gear, engine components, and flight control surfaces.
- Prior USAF NDI experience (e.g., AFSC 2A7X2) highly desirable.
WORK CONDITIONS
- This position requires overseas deployment where the Technician will perform.
- Must demonstrate the ability to operate effectively and self-sufficiently in a foreign environment, including communication, local navigation, and personal sustainability.
SPECIAL WORK CONDITIONS
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Secret and appropriate host nation clearance(s). Ongoing eligibility is subject to periodic review. Strict adherence to all security protocols, procedures, and training is required.
- Must possess a valid U.S. passport with no travel restrictions, limitations, or disqualifications, with a validity extending a minimum 6 months beyond the projected assignment completion date.
- Must be able to secure all required work authorizations, including a valid work visa for the host country. Any prior immigration violations, criminal offenses, or adverse travel history that may prevent entry will not be considered.
- Adherence to the legal, regulatory, safety, and operational requirements of the host nation is mandatory throughout the duration of assignment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, talk, walk, hear, see, and reach with hands and arms.
- This position requires close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- This role is performed in hazardous duty locations, around loud noises and hazardous chemicals with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The Aircraft Technician III must be able to work in environments with exposure to noise, chemicals, dust, and varying weather conditions.
- This position may require working in environments where combat-related personal protective equipment is issued and must be worn, such as ballistic vests, helmets, or other protective gear. The Technician must be able to properly don, wear, and operate effectively while using such equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work conditions may require quick movement or repositioning in response to safety, operational, or environmental needs.
- Duties may involve standing, walking, bending, climbing, or working in confined or elevated areas for extended periods.
- The essential duties and responsibilities are performed in a dynamic, high-tempo environment, while earing required protective equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
