Position: Senior Network Engineer
Clearance Level: Top Secret
Location: Chantilly, VA
Duration: 18 months
Type: W2 contract, paid hourly. No C2C, 1099, or third-party submissions will be accepted. Only direct W-2 candidates will be considered.
Pay Rate Range: $75-90/hr.
Job Description:
Come join one of the largest infrastructure deployments in the region! Hiring for a senior level, hands-on Network Engineer who can design, run and modernize a large, high-traffic, carrier-grade network with high uptime expectations (99.999%). Prior experience at an ISP, Service Provider, Hyperscale, or Carrier environment.
• Hardware Expertise: Hands-on experience with carrier-grade platforms (e.g., Ciena, Cisco ASR/NCS/Nexus, Juniper MX/Mist, Nokia, or Arista).
• Automation/Scripting: Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Python or Ansible.
• Linux/Unix: Strong Linux CLI skills.
Proven background running mission critical networks (ISP, telecom, backbone, large data center)
• Experience with dark fiber, optical transport, wavelengths, MPLS
• Comfortable owning networks where outages are unacceptable and highly visible
• Designs end to end IP networks (core, edge, peering)
• Handles Tier 3/4 escalations and leads major outage resolution
• Performs deep troubleshooting and RCA under pressure
• Understands how decisions affect uptime, capacity, and long term operations
Advanced, real world expertise with:
• BGP (internet peering, traffic engineering)
• OSPF / ISIS
• MPLS / IP Ethernet
• Experience optimizing traffic flow at scale
• IPv4/IPv6 transition, including CGNAT
• AAA / RADIUS
• Exposure to wireless or mobility core networking (a plus)
Required Skills & Experience
• Experience: 5+- 15+ years in network engineering, specifically within a service provider, ISP, or carrier-grade data center environment.
• Technical Proficiency (L2-L3): TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, ISIS, MPLS, IKE, IPSEC, VPNs, and VLANs.
• Technical Proficiency (L0-L2): SONET/SDH, FDDI, OTN (ITU-T G.709, OTU4, OTU2).
Clearance Requirement: Candidates must be US citizens able to obtain and/or maintain a Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance as a condition and continuation of employment
Education:
Masters Degree in Network Engineering or related field + 8 years experience; OR Bachelors Degree in Network Engineering or related field + 10 years experience. Ideally 5+ years experience with provisioning carrier class networks.
Certifications: CCNP/CCIE (Service Provider or Routing & Switching) preferred but not required.
