Leidos Health and Services Group currently has an opening for a Specialty Consultant - Special Needs to work remotely . This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the Military OneSource mission. The Military OneSource Program provides 24/7 support services for military members and their families, similar to a commercial Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This program provides a broad array of information, resources, education, referrals, and counseling to about 4.7 million participants which includes military service members, their families, and eligible civilians at locations worldwide. The Military OneSource program serves as a “one source” for resource and information encompassing a comprehensive support system.

The Specialty Consultant – Special Needs provides information and referrals related to specialized programs that directly impact military members and their families, particularly those with special medical or educational needs. This role delivers personalized, tailored assistance and referral services to program participants.

They provide subject matter expertise in disability law to assist military families in navigating complex areas such as educational law; medical entitlements; the military health care system and TRICARE; special needs trusts and estate planning; and legal matters involving individuals with special medical and educational needs. The consultant offers guidance, training, and information to individuals, families, and caregivers to help them navigate challenges associated with special needs.

This role identifies and connects individuals with special needs to appropriate community resources, including healthcare services, therapies, support groups, and social programs. With participant approval, the consultant obtains feedback following the initial consultation using a Government-provided feedback instrument to ensure a consistently high level of quality.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized consultation, information, and referrals to military members and their families with special medical or educational needs.
  • Deliver subject matter expertise in disability law and related areas, including educational law, medical entitlements, TRICARE and military health care systems, special needs trusts, estate planning, and legal matters affecting individuals with special needs.
  • Offer guidance, training, and education to individuals, families, and caregivers to help them navigate complex systems and services associated with special needs.
  • Identify and connect participants to appropriate community and military resources, including healthcare providers, therapies, support groups, and social programs.
  • Collect and document participant feedback, outreach efforts, and engagement metrics to support continuous quality improvement.
  • Accurately complete After-Action Reports (AARs) documenting services provided, follow-up activities, and case closures in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Utilize Government-provided feedback instruments, with participant consent, to assess service quality following consultations.
  • Contribute to the development of evidence-based specialty content for Government review and approval.
  • Maintain a minimum of twelve professional development hours annually related to adults and children with special needs.
  • Maintain accurate case documentation and ensure compliance with Case Note Documentation Policy and contractual requirements.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned based on business needs.


Basic Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a behavioral or social science field.
  • Demonstrated professional training and experience in disability law and related subject areas impacting military families, including educational law, medical entitlements, TRICARE, special needs trusts, and estate planning.
  • Knowledge of the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP).
  • Commitment to maintaining at least twelve professional development hours annually in topics related to adults and children with special needs.
  • Strong customer service skills and knowledge of call center operations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of military lifestyle and culture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel, as well as web-based research and electronic documentation systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship and fluency in English required.
  • Ability to successfully pass criminal history, fingerprint background checks, and credential verification required.
  • Ability to maintain and retain suitability investigation and clearance as required.  
  • Military spouse or former Service member required for certain consultation programs, as applicable.
  • Proficient in navigating electronic systems, computer programs, and virtual service platforms.
  • This position requires a separate, quiet, private, confidential space to work from, as well as having access to your own reliable high-speed internet hard wired to your home (coax or fiber from the Internet Service Provider (ISP) to your home.) Using a hot spot from a mobile device (tethering) or wireless ISP is not acceptable.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Military spouse, military affiliation, and/or experience in the military community is highly desirable.
  • Employee assistance program (EAP) experience.
  • Call center experience.
  • Telehealth experience.

Pay Range: Pay Range $59,150.00 - $106,925.00
