Job Overview

AEVEX is seeking a Global Freight Specialist (Hazardous Materials Certified) responsible for coordinating domestic and international freight shipments, ensuring full compliance with regulatory, customer, and company requirements. This role manages end-to-end logistics activities including carrier coordination, shipment documentation, and export processes for aerospace components and systems. The Specialist is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and signing hazardous goods declarations in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations. This position ensures all hazardous and non-hazardous shipments are properly classified, packaged, labeled, and documented to meet applicable domestic and international shipping standards. This role works closely with program teams, warehouse operations, and external freight forwarders to ensure timely, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of materials worldwide. The position also supports compliance with AS9100 requirements, including documentation accuracy, traceability, and audit readiness. The Global Freight Specialist (Hazardous Materials Certified) plays a critical role in enabling global operations while minimizing risk and ensuring adherence to all applicable transportation and export regulations.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinate domestic and international freight shipments, including air, ground, and ocean, ensuring on-time and cost-effective delivery.
  • Prepare, review, and sign hazardous goods declarations in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) 49 CFR and International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR).
  • Classify hazardous materials and ensure proper packaging, labeling, marking, and documentation for all shipments.
  • Ensure compliance with export regulations, including proper documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, export filings) and coordination with freight forwarders and customs brokers.
  • Maintain accurate shipping documentation and records in accordance with AS9100, including traceability and audit readiness.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (warehouse, quality, program management, procurement) to ensure materials are properly prepared and staged for shipment.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for freight carriers and freight forwarders, managing bookings, tracking shipments, and resolving transportation issues.
  • Ensure compliance with hazardous materials handling, storage, and shipping requirements, including segregation and compatibility rules.
  • Monitor and track shipments, proactively addressing delays, damages, or discrepancies.
  • Support import/export compliance activities, including awareness of ITAR/EAR requirements and coordination with compliance personnel.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable DOT, IATA, and international shipping regulations, ensuring ongoing compliance.
  • Support internal and external audits by maintaining accurate and complete shipping and compliance records.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce cost, and ensure compliance in global logistics operations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Competencies
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and sign hazardous goods declarations for air shipments.
  • Strong working knowledge of international shipping documentation and processes, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and export filings.
  • Familiarity with hazardous materials classification, packaging, labeling, and documentation requirements.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 principles, including documentation control and traceability.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ERP or shipping/logistics systems.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and/or EAR (Export Administration Regulations).
  • Knowledge of international customs requirements and import/export processes.

Education / Certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
  • Forklift Certification (preferred)
  • Certification or training in hazardous materials handling or shipping beyond minimum requirements.
  • Current certification in IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) and DOT hazardous materials (49 CFR) required.

Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in domestic and international shipping, freight coordination, or logistics operations.
  • Experience working with freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers.
  • Experience in the aerospace or defense industry.
  • Experience in preparing Electronic Export Information (EEI) filings in AES.
  • Experience supporting compliance audits and regulatory inspections.
