Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Production - Industrial Engineer. In this role, you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Canon-Based Air Defense (CBAD) program, a high-profile effort within the Defense Systems sector. CBAD integrates sensors, battle management command and control, and effectors leveraging battle-proven cannons and a suite of advanced ammunition, ready to defend against subsonic cruise missiles and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) from conflict start to finish.

The successful candidate will establish a new manufacturing facility setup ensuring facility production startup. This role will drive operational excellence by leading safe, cost-effective initiatives for new equipment justifications, tooling requirements, and plant layout optimizations.

The Production - Industrial Engineer Engineer will be the technical authority for all aspects of manufacturing and production engineering for the CBAD program. This role will assist with technical performance of the program meeting cost and schedule requirements. This role is critical with new product implementation, ensuring all engineering designs are scalable and manufacturable.

The Manufacturing - Industrial Engineer can be virtual or onsite at any of the following locations: Huntsville, AL, Plymouth, MN, Fairfax, VA, McLean VA, Warner Robins GA. Approximately 25% initial travel

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as lead and technical authority of the Production Launch Integrated Product/Process Team (IPT)
  • Responsible for facilitating the selection or new infrastructure buildout for the CBAD production capabilities, including design and tooling requirements
  • Execute design operations and responsible for solutioning plan development and production issues.
  • Bridge the gap between technical manufacturing processes and business operations. oversee the implementation of new products and processes.
  • Optimize and manage complex systems, processes, and technologies to increase efficiency, quality, and productivity.
  • Creating and controlling production documentation
  • Execute design operations, plant development solutions to production issues.
  • Cost-benefit analyses of operation to produce products.
  • Determine the technology and equipment needed to increase productivity.
  • Program Participation and Design Influence
  • Evaluating manufacturing constraints, capacity, and required resources across the production environment
  • Adaptive Planning
  • Cross Business Unit collaboration

Basic qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 12 years' experience or a Masters degree with 10 years' experience or a PHD with 8 years' experience
  • Experience with Manufacturing production cell / plant layout facility and process improvement projects, from concept and proposal through execution
  • Extensive experience in industrial manufacturing base process.
  • Experience with Manufacturing production cell / plant layout
  • Familiarity with defense manufacturing industry
  • Experience with Cost Analysis: Calculating material, labor, and equipment costs to ensure economical production.
  • Designing factory layouts, machinery, and workstations to ensure smooth, safe workflows
  • CAD/CAE (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA)
  • Manufacturing simulation tools (e.g., Simio, FlexSim)
  • Cost-estimation methodology
  • Knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and Lean/Six-Sigma methods
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret (or higher) security clearance


Preferred qualifications:
  • Advanced knowledge of ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environmental) standards
  • Analytical Thinking - Strong problem-solving ability, especially in identifying and fixing production bottlenecks.
  • Data Analysis - Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and analyzing production data
  • Prior experience with start up programs
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously


Primary Level Salary Range: $146,300.00 - $219,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
