Hybrid 3 day/week on site in Washington, DC

Our client seeks an Application Tester to support Java, .NET, and MQ messaging applications within a structured SDLC environment. The role will plan and execute manual and automated testing, validate data via SQL, and document results to improve quality and reliability. The tester will collaborate with cross-functional teams to triage issues, manage defects, and support change management across AFMS applications. The position will impact delivery by ensuring test coverage, regression integrity, and adherence to test standards.

Due to federal security clearance requirements, applicant must be a United States Citizen with an active Public Trust clearance. This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Rate: $35.00 to $42.00/hr. w2

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and develop functional test plans for all phases of testing.
  • Design, execute, and maintain automated and manual test scripts.
  • Generate test data and perform data validation activities.
  • Execute regression, functional, load, and system testing.
  • Verify results and produce test summaries and defect reports.
  • Identify defects and requirement discrepancies.
  • Create defect change requests and report discrepancies.
  • Determine test objectives and standards by reviewing customer requirements.
  • Conduct application testing of web-based systems.
  • Capture and document test artifacts and record defects.
  • Access and query databases using MS Access or SQL to verify and validate results.
  • Report test outcomes by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, summarizing, and displaying data.
  • Resolve testing problems by adjusting methods and revising objectives and plans with management.
  • Gain understanding of business requirements, current system operations, and new requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, analysis walkthroughs, and peer reviews.
  • Use Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearCase for test and change management activities.

Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in software testing, creation, and implementation.
  • Proficiency with the Software Development Lifecycle and change management.
  • Evidence of using test strategies, test plans, manual test cases, and automated test scripts.
  • Experience performing both manual and automated testing.
  • Ability to conduct test risk and system impact analysis.
  • Detail orientation with strong problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Ability to identify, document, and track defects thoroughly.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and off hours as required.
  • Working knowledge of Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearCase.
  • Ability to develop automated scripts and organize suites using Rational tools such as Rational Test Manager and Rational Functional Tester (preferred).
  • Capability to develop SQL for testing analysis and back-end database testing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Hands-on experience with TestComplete, Insomnia, SoapUI, ReadyAPI, TOAD, or Data Studio (preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to collaborate and triage technical issues across teams.
  • US citizenship and ability to pass a DOJ Minimal Background Investigation, MBI, Level 5 background investigation.

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree.
