Boeing's Defense, Space and Security (BDS) Missile and Weapons Systems (MWS) is seeking a Senior Engineering & Lab Manager to support the Hill Air Force Base (HAFB) Little Mountain Test Facility (LMTF) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Program (ICBM) Program out of Ogden, UT. This position will be responsible and have direct accountability with LMTF's four Nuclear Hardness & Survivability (NH&S) labs, Radiation, Electrical Part Test, Shock & Vibration (S&V), and Electromagnetic Effects (EME). Specifically, the responsibilities are to conduct testing on parts, sub-systems, and systems to verify hardness and survivability for the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) portfolio, Department of Defense (DoD)/ Department of Energy (DoE) Programs, and other partners. The overall vision includes ensuring LMTF's test capabilities and facilities meet sustainment, modernization, and mission requirements, safeguarding the land-based leg of the nuclear triad and providing test support to other mission partners where available.

This position provides oversight and approval of LMTF's four nuclear hardness and survivability labs. Primary responsibilities for LMTF's labs include (1) nuclear hardness test conduct, test planning, test execution, and test reporting, (2) lab operations, maintenance, and upgrades, (3) developing and maintaining a lab specific and general LMTF employee certification program, (4) oversee compliance with maintaining lab equipment, calibrations, and repair, (5) maintain the high-standard employee and lab Safety, Security, and Quality program, and (6) provide technical oversight and lead the programs modernization efforts and contracts to design, develop, and integrate new nuclear hardness test capabilities, test stands, and new or upgraded facilities.

In addition, this role will serve as the primary AFNWC Government customer focal for LMTF engineering, laboratory items, test and upgrade contracts, and issues resolution/challenges. The Senior Engineering & Lab Manager will also be the primary focal point for planning, presenting, and leading Distinguished Visitor (DV) visits, tours, and meetings with Government and mission stakeholders, while effectively promoting LMTF's overall capabilities, technical expertise, and the requirements to support ICBM and other DoD/DoE weapon systems with future modernization efforts.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining state of the art capabilities and maintaining greater than 95% lab availability across all four labs.
  • Maintain and continue to grow LMTF's objective as the Center of Excellence nuclear hardness test facility and maintaining Boeing's expertise, knowledge and skills to plan, execute and report the status of nuclear hardness related programs and hardware.
  • The manager will be accountable for a team of up to 5 lab managers, Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), chief engineers, technical fellows, lab Project Leads, and LMTF's manufacturing function and engineering.
  • Lab operations, maintenance, testing, and oversight of 50 plus engineers and technicians supporting LMTF with the opportunity for added personnel growth.
  • Direct responsibilities of current and future LMTF growth to include multiple new test capabilities, new technology that includes research and development, design, development, and integration of new test stands and facilities.
  • Manage employees and first-level managers performing activities within multiple (2 or more) engineering disciplines.
  • Attend and present at technical conferences and requested meetings at DoD locations in support of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD).


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Note: All candidates must comply with safety and regulatory requirements associated with radiation simulation technology and radioactive material permits.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 10 years of experience working with or supporting nuclear hardness & survivability requirements and laboratories.
  • 10 years of experience with or equivalent to the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system.


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 5 years of experience at Little Mountain Test Facility (LMTF) or similar facility or program supporting nuclear hardness and survivability requirements.
  • Proven experience in managing engineering teams and laboratories with nuclear hardness and survivability requirements.
  • 10 years of experience with a basic understanding of Shock and Vibration testing principles
  • 10 years of experience researching, developing, or evaluating electromagnetic effects requirements
  • 10 years of experience with Electromagnetics engineering
  • 10 years of experience with nuclear hardness with electromagnetic pulse and/or radiation effects.
  • In-depth knowledge of electromagnetic effects, shock and vibration, and radiation simulation technology, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively coordinate with diverse teams.
  • Strong experience in program and project management.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance processes and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technological landscapes and integrate new advancements.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and upholding industry standards.
