Job Description
McLaughlin Research Corporation (MRC) is seeking an Electrical Technician who will support the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport RI. The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) is the United States Navy's full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support center for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive weapons systems associated with undersea warfare. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, schedule driven environment . Alteration Istallation Team (AIT) Technicians will be members of a team that assembles and tests finished products using sub-assemblies, parts, and fasteners. Fabricates and assembles cable harnesses, wires electrical chassis and electrical boxes.
Day to day responsibilities of this role will include:
• Works with installation and engineering groups on mechanical and electrical layout/design of product updates and new product releases.
• Fabricates and designs cable harnesses and wire assemblies.
• Solders
• In-house testing of systems
• Wires electrical cables.
• Researches sources for installation/lab/office materials.
• Develops bills of material.
• Develops installation kits for use by system installers for product installation.
• Documents and reports on work performed.
• Position requires lifting, pulling or carrying items of approximately weight of 75 lbs and size in confined spaces, including vertical ladders; commensurate with job requirements.
• Travel (approximately 30%) will be required for system installations, sometimes with minimal notice.
Job Requirements
• Technical School or apprenticeship program in related field of electrical or electronic support.
• A minimum of 2-3 years of electronic technician work experience.
• Ability to interpret schematic layouts
• Knowledge of soldering techniques
• Basic understanding of computer hardware, Microsoft Office, LINUX and/or Windows operating systems
Military or Defense Industry experience a plus.
Candidate must possess good communication and documentation skills, be disciplined, possess a self-motivated work ethic, and have the ability to thrive within a team environment.
Candidate must have or be able to obtain a government security clearance to the level of Secret.
