Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in 1) implementing traffic plans and programs; 2) investigating traffic accidents and/or collisions; 3) using search and arrest authority to detain witnesses, suspects and other persons involved in criminal activities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Help
- Is the subject matter expert for traffic collision response, investigations, reconstruction and traffic management operations.
- Take charge of accident scenes to conduct investigations directing the initial response of uniformed patrols initially on the scene.
- Enforce the laws of the United States, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), and applicable local regulations involving persons and property.
- Collect and preserve evidence, conducts short-term and long-term investigations on criminal cases and analyze facts to identify suspects and develops case information.
- Operate National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal to transcribe data, the Breath Alcohol Tester (Intoxilyzer), 3D laser scanning, Crash Data Retrieval Systems and Air Pulse Traffic Data Systems to gather data.
- Serve as Point of Contact for insurance agencies as well as civil law enforcement agencies on investigations.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy or complete within 1 year of hire date, unless incumbent has been grandfathered or has a waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- Successfully graduated from a DOD, Federal, National or State approved Traffic Management and Collision Investigation (TMCI) course or complete within one year of hire date.
- Must comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program which includes a high standard of conduct, assessed for emotional stability, judgment, adjusting to changes, work effectively under pressure and emergencies.
- Completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Must maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test . Failure to meet the standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
- Must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions such as weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System training.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
- In accordance the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act if convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position; and is subject to removal from the position if found convicted after being employed.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Mission Essential designated position during Inclement Weather Conditions or emergency conditions. In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.
- Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
- Incumbent must be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
- Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies. Convictions that occurred before January 20, 2001 are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
