Purpose:
- Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for a Senior Engineering Technician Mechanical in Sasebo, Japan. This role will provide pre-deployment assessments, document recommendations, perform minor repairs and troubleshooting, and conduct shipboard practical maintenance training and technical assistance to all classes of Surface ships. Work will be performed shipboard and in the area encompassed by the Japan Regional Maintenance Center Det Sasebo's area of responsibility.
Job Description:
- Provide technical support as required to ships force for the assessment, fault isolation, repair, and final adjustment of specific items, systems, and equipment and conduct functional checks and operational tests of those systems onboard ship.
- Supervises others and manages one or more multiple jobs. Applies comprehensive understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignments. Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others. The Sub-contractor shall provide Program/Task management of all personnel assigned to this task.
- Performs a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks.
- Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management.
- Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.
Qualifications:
- Must have an Associate's degree in appropriate discipline from an accredited college or university; in lieu of a degree at least 2 additional years of technical experience will suffice.
- Must have at least 12 years' experience in the operations, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems of U.S. Naval ships is required, including:
- Must have at least 4 years of experience directing or supervising a workforce of less skilled technical personnel in the performance of repair and maintenance functions.
- Must have at least 5 years' experience in administration of the Navy 3-M and supply system.
- Must have at least 5 years' experience with shipboard propulsion plants or auxiliary machinery equipment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Preferred Air conditioning & Refrigeration (AC&R) experience.
- Fiber Optics, preferred.
Security Requirements:
- Must have and be able to maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Personnel must be a U.S. Citizen, maintain active security clearance, and Navy base ID card
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional Travel- less than 10%
- If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidates must be able to obtain (no later than position start date) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to travel and work in shipyards and on US Navy Ships in port and underway.
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
- The employee is frequently required to walk.
- Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch/crawl and talk/hear.
- Require moving objects up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
