Position Description & Qualifications

If you love high profile and challenging projects supporting the US Navy, then Serco has a great opportunity for you!

As the Production Technician, you will be on a dynamic waterfront team building the Navy's newest Surface Combatant at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS, where you will be critical to reducing schedule risk associated with faulty equipment or major casualties by providing Care and Protection (C&P) surveillance, oversight of the Preservation and Preventive Maintenance (P&PM) Program, and Fire Prevention surveillance. You will be part of a 75-member team that works closely with the Navy and other Serco teams to deliver quality systems integration, engineering, and acquisition support to an exciting and dynamic major acquisition program. This team has been recognized as a vital link in bringing important resources and success to the Frigate program office.

Serco supports the US Navy as a prime contractor, providing Production, Quality, and Engineering Support Services to a major Navy shipbuilding acquisition program, the FF(X) Frigate Class at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS.

In this role you will:

  • During the conduct of all surveillance efforts, observe and report on unsafe conditions, or work practices, that could cause harm to personnel or damage to equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, ladder/scaffolding safety, tank/void safety, working aloft, etc. For anything that poses a serious personnel safety risk, immediately find trade supervision and stop work.
  • Articulate all findings verbally and in writing, supporting reports with authorized photographs as necessary.
  • Compose and submit a weekly summary of activities and a detailed monthly report for submission to the Navy.
  • Participate in local meetings with Serco, Shipyard, and SUPSHIP personnel, providing input and recommendations.
  • For significant issues, develop and propose viable solutions or alternative approaches to mitigate risk.

For Care & Protection (C&P) support:
  • Conduct multiple daily walk-throughs of all FF(X) production and storage areas to monitor and report on the shipyard's methods for preserving and protecting equipment during storage, rigging, installation, testing, and operation.
  • Utilize shipyard procedures to identify non-compliant conditions and report to stakeholders (Serco Lead, SUPSHIP, Ingalls) to remedy.
  • The Technician should be able to verbally and/or in writing articulate the as-found conditions and support those findings using authorized photographs, as appropriate.

For GFE & CFE Maintenance Support:
  • Review OEM/vendor documentation to verify that the shipyard's preservation and maintenance practices align with manufacturer requirements to ensure equipment warranties remain in effect and reduce risk on schedule by ensuring equipment is maintained properly to support testing and trials.
  • Verify that routine Planned Maintenance System (PMS) work is being performed in accordance with OEM requirements on equipment in each phase (storage, installed on ship pre-light off, and post-light off).
  • Perform periodic surveys of all stored equipment and materials (indoor and outdoor) to evaluate exposure to environmental factors and ensure proper storage conditions are maintained.

For Fire Prevention support:

  • In conjunction with daily C&P surveys, observe and report on work practices, housekeeping, and environmental conditions that could increase fire risk within production areas, storage areas, or aboard the ship.
  • Identify and report fire safety deficiencies, such as excessive combustible materials near hot work or missing/uncharged fire extinguishers.
  • Observe and report on the condition and readiness of temporary fire main systems, including fire station accessibility and water pressure.

To be successful in this role, you will have :
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
  • US Citizenship.
  • 4 years of experience working in maritime industrial operations.
  • A High School Diploma/GED.
  • Experience collecting data and crafting presentations for higher level review.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Program (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience providing briefs and recommendations to senior contractor and government/military personnel.
  • Ability to interface with others, provide accurate and timely information and participate as an integral part of an expanded build team.
  • The ability to travel at least 10% of the time.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • A current or active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Significant experience working with U.S. Navy shipbuilding programs and/or waterfront production/technical support processes and procedures.
  • Experience supporting Navy Supervisor of Shipbuilding.
  • US Navy PMS knowledge.
