Job Summary:
TEKsystems is seeking a Mid-Level Communications Network Engineer to support the Navy’s NGEN-R SMIT program. In this role, you will design, install, troubleshoot, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure supporting the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet. You will work hands-on with Cisco routers and switches, support routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF, and ensure networks meet cybersecurity and operational requirements in a mission-critical, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, integrate, and support current and future enterprise network architectures.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot Cisco routers, switches, and related network equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network outages involving routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
- Support daily network operations including monitoring system health and status.
- Define and maintain configuration baselines and version control.
- Conduct and support network upgrades, maintenance activities, and design reviews.
- Provide network engineering support for integration, installation, testing, and evaluation activities.
- Ensure network designs and changes meet cybersecurity requirements and security controls.
- Follow detailed installation, configuration management, and change management procedures.
- Work on-site at Navy facilities, traveling between locations as needed to support customers.
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of overall IT experience, with at least 4 years in network administration OR 4 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field.
- Strong hands-on experience troubleshooting enterprise networks, including BGP and OSPF.
- Experience installing and supporting Cisco routers and switches.
- CompTIA Security+ certification (required).
- Ability to obtain CCNA certification within 6 months of hire.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Enterprise network design experience in DoD or federal environments.
- Experience supporting large-scale network operations or NGEN/NMCI environments.
- Familiarity with Navy or DoD cybersecurity compliance and security controls.
- Prior experience working on-site in field services or customer-facing engineering roles.
Work Environment:
This is an on-site role on Naval Station Great Lakes supporting Navy customers.
