Northrop Grumman's Defense Systems sector is looking for a Launch Systems Business Unit, Deputy Programs Director 2 in our Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) division headquarters in Roy, Utah.

What You Will Get To Do:

Lead programmatic, technical and business integration of the Sentinel Launch Systems Business Unit (BU), reporting directly to the Vice President, Launch Systems. This leader will interact with internal and external executives and prepare/present executive briefings, therefore the successful candidate must display consistent impeccable judgment and embody Northrop Grumman Values and Leadership Behaviors. The successful candidate should thrive in a dynamic work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels of customer and executive leadership.

This position will exemplify our Northrop Grumman Leadership Behaviors in the following areas:
  • Sets a Vision: Collaborate with the BU VP to establish long-range Business Unit strategy and direction; develop and communicate a clear vision for shaping, growing, and resourcing the Launch Systems BU to meet and exceed its obligations across all program phases resulting in sustainable value and performance.
  • Builds a High Performing Team: Partner with Programmatic & Functional leadership to build, maintain, and implement mentorship, succession, and career development plans. Develop and execute staffing plans that achieve financial and programmatic strategic goals, leveraging each team member to perform at their highest level of productivity.
  • Takes Ownership: Drive proactive execution across a diverse, multidisciplinary team to meet and exceed cost, schedule, and technical performance metrics. Communicate progress, challenges, and plans with clarity and conciseness. Lead BU teams to drive accurate planning and execution, while owning results to deliver predictable Profit & Loss performance across multiple Launch Systems Operating Units.
  • Leads with Courage: Instill a culture of empowerment and accountability that enables the Launch Systems team to efficiently meet or exceed obligations. Build and empower strong partnering relationships with customers, industry partners, and internal organizations - often representing the Launch Systems BU VP as an executive delegate at high-visibility Northrop Grumman and USG events.
  • Responds to Challenges with Resilience: Deals effectively with change and challenges, to include proactive risk and opportunity management. Leverage strong partnerships to navigate setbacks and implement recovery plans that maintain forward program momentum.
  • Acts with Speed: Leverage leaders within the Launch Systems BU to make timely and credible decisions with a sense of urgency, while performing advocacy across a broad stakeholder community to ensure buy-in and mitigate delays. Implement process improvements, corrective action plans, and strategic initiatives to maintain and increase execution velocity. Negotiate handoffs with other NG and USG teams for joint work products ensuring high-quality integrated deliverables.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree with 10 years of related experience, or Master's Degree and 8 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in leadership positions/roles.
  • Strong understanding and broad application of program management skills (risk and opportunity management, financial management, configuration management, process control, resource and facilities management, etc.)
  • Active DoD Secret clearance, investigation must have been completed within past 5 years.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in achieving results through people leadership, as well as the understanding and management of internal program processes and customer/supplier relationships.
  • Experience leading the performance of strategic tasks on schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements as either Operating Unit leader or Integrated Program Team leader.
  • Prior experience interfacing with prime contractor site leads, customer leadership, and subcontractor/supplier personnel.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations and ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain, dynamic and challenging situations.
  • Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring organization meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Active DoD TS/SCI clearance
  • ICBM experience


Primary Level Salary Range: $230,000.00 - $345,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
