The Strategic Technology and Economic Foresight Department strengthens ODNI's ability to anticipate, assess, and respond to global technological and economic competition. The department delivers analytic rigor, foresight, and strategic assessments that help ODNI understand emerging technologies, geopolitical dependencies, economic risk, and supply chain vulnerabilities. It ensures MITRE provides clear, actionable insights that enable senior leaders to protect national advantage, strengthen resilience, and shape whole-of-government responses to global shifts.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Strategic Technology and Economic Foresight Department seeks a Principal Software Engineer Task Leader for Project ODNI IARPA VLINCS program. We are seeking a motivated and creative Task Leader with proven experience in project management, technical and thought leadership in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) mission space, sponsor relations, and team development. As a Lead Task Leader, you will be accountable for the overall direction, work shaping, programmatic support, internal and external coordination, execution, and outcomes of MITRE work for the sponsor's evolving research objectives. The primary activities of the team are the development of a research computational framework, user interface and data processing pipelines.
  • Lead MITRE's software development efforts in support of the sponsor:
    • Direct and oversee the development of all software work products
    • Engage research teams in the use of those products and manage features requests from research teams.
    • Engage T&E partner organizations to support all T&E needs.
    • Communication across IARPA efforts on best practices and reusable software
    • Leverage MITRE expertise, research, approaches, frameworks, and technical solutions as appropriate to help achieve the sponsor's mission outcomes.
  • Serve as the Task's primary point of contact across the VLINCS program.
  • Build and nurture a high-performing team that meets sponsor's desired outcomes.
  • Subject matter expertise in software development, artificial intelligence, on-prem & cloud architecture, and DevSecOps.


Sponsor/Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as the lead MITRE point of contact for all software-related materials.
  • Provide appropriate technical support and reach back to the Sponsor, T&E partners and research teams.
  • Engage transition partners to understand their requirements and provide training as necessary.


Work Program Definition and Execution
  • Understand the sponsor's desired mission outcomes and participate in future work-shaping.
  • Work with the VLINCS project leadership team to develop and execute sponsor engagement strategy.
  • Develop and maintain an executable support plan, and execute the plan within allocation
  • Ensure the right staffing skill mix and resources are in place


Communication
  • Ensure that program area knowledge is shared openly to all task leaders and team members.
  • Serve as communication conduit between project team and sponsor leadership.
  • Seek internal feedback on project activities and sponsor engagements from project team.
  • Recognize team accomplishments and achievement appropriately.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a minimum of 15 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 12 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 8 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver clear and concise deliverables to Government sponsors.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a staff in the production of deliverables for Government sponsors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with staff on other tasks to share applicable information to improve MITRE support to Government sponsors.
  • Demonstrated leadership of software activities
  • Secret clearance and willingness to apply for TS/SCI
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:
$191,200 - $239,000 - $286,800 Annual
