Job Description

What You Actually Do (Day-to-Day)

At a practical level, this job is about monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining military communication networks, especially over satellite.

Watch the network in real time
Monitor systems for outages or performance issues (like a NOC/SOC role)
Troubleshoot problems
When something breaks, you help figure out why and fix it—this could be routers, satellite links, or encrypted comms
Work tickets
Track issues from start to resolution using unique systems
Configure network equipment
Routers, switches, firewalls, satellite modems, etc.
Support SATCOM (satellite communications)
Help connect/disconnect users to satellite networks
Push configs to remote gateway sites across the globe
Coordinate with global teams
Work with operators at DoD satellite sites and deployed locations
What Makes This Role Unique
It supports the DoD’s global communications backbone (DISN/GIG)
Heavy focus on SATCOM + IP networking (not just traditional IT networking)
Work happens in a 24/7 operations center (DGOC)
You’re supporting mission-critical communications (outages actually matter)
