Job Description
The AI Engineer will support the International Trade Administration (ITA) Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence (AI-CoE) by delivering end-to-end artificial intelligence solutions across the full system lifecycle. This role focuses on designing, developing, deploying, optimizing, and integrating AI capabilities within secure, cloud-based federal IT environments. The AI Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams in Agile and SAFe environments to deliver scalable, reliable, and compliant AI solutions that support mission objectives.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy artificial intelligence and machine learning models across the full system lifecycle.
- Manage data ingestion, preprocessing, validation, and feature engineering to support model development and deployment.
- Build, deploy, and maintain AI infrastructure, pipelines, and supporting services in secure cloud environments.
- Optimize model performance, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Automate workflows and integrate AI solutions with enterprise systems and platforms.
- Monitor AI models in production environments and implement continuous improvements and enhancements.
- Collaborate with product owners, developers, data engineers, and stakeholders within SAFe Agile delivery environments.
- Ensure AI solutions align with federal security, compliance, governance, and ethical AI requirements.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, system artifacts, and operational runbooks.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must possess and maintain a NACI or higher background investigation.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience supporting AI or machine learning solutions.
- Demonstrated experience across the AI system lifecycle, including model development and deployment.
- Proficiency with machine learning frameworks, tools, and programming languages.
- Experience working in Agile or SAFe delivery environments.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in a technical field.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Familiarity with MLOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools.
- Experience supporting federal or public-sector IT programs.
- Knowledge of AI governance, ethics, security, and responsible AI best practices.
