INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER

Duties

• You will take action on all Safety, HAZMAT, and Environmental issues related to the areas and processes within your operation.
• You will provide expert advice and direction and be considered the technical authority for training vehicles.
• You will drive the strategic direction of the training targets program through your technical experience, background, and knowledge.
• You will guide a team of engineers and technicians specializing in undersea targets, implementing acquisition initiatives to ensure quality and reliability, and taking corrective action when performance metrics fall below acceptable levels.
• You will lead and mentor full-performance-level professionals, junior professionals, technical assistants, and technicians.
• You will work on projects of broad scope and complexity, identifying and providing solutions for system problems both locally and at remote locations.
• You will be responsible for project management, systems engineering, risk management, project engineering, execution, and key technical area competencies to satisfy current and future customer requirements.
• You will network with other sites' EICs and effectively inform and solve problems for the entire program, not just your local site.
• You will determine priorities and work with senior repair technicians and engineers to repair suspect items to meet fleet requirements.
• You will coordinate and execute vehicle or component buildup and turnaround to meet scheduled commitments as well as emergent, real-time operational requirements.
• You will make reutilization decisions at your discretion if the action makes another target operational at the required site.
• You will ensure the smooth operation at the Operational Site (OS), taking actions to ensure operations are conducted safely and efficiently while maintaining the highest target reliability possible.
• You will serve as the technical POC for the Department for all phases of MK 30 operation and will be responsible for the target technical operation.
• You will work with Technical Project Managers (TPMs) and Branch Heads (BHs) to plan budgets and workload involving all core competencies and functions of the organization.

• This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area Engineering and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a Professional Engineer. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying detailed knowledge in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Targets, Depot level procedures, qualifications, and processes, as well as in-depth experience with the Quality Assurance (QA) process for Depot and Operational Site certifications, covering maintenance processes, troubleshooting, component and assembly repairs, operations, and certification..

Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
